The headline reads weirdly to me. I don't think we'll see any trans athletes at the White House.

@assignedmedia.org Thanks for the site update. My no-longer-great eyes love the bigger font.

Your ballot or other mail may not get postmarked by USPS the day it's dropped off Close to a deadline for mailing your ballot, tax return or legal document? To make sure it gets a postmark on time under the latest USPS changes, you may want to send it early or visit a post office.

NPR in Oct: www.npr.org/2025/10/23/n... "USPS hasn't changed how it applies postmarks. What has changed is that, as the mail agency continues its controversial reorganization plan, more parts of the country may not get their first-class mail processed until the day after it's collected by USPS."

I had to look up stanning: "be an overzealous or obsessive fan of (a particular celebrity)." Got it!

We were just there - at a book launch for a book about RAISING TRANS KIDS. And, they gave us the "we've got your back" line to cheers from adults and youth in the audience.

Opinion | What’s Lost if the Government Pushes People Like Me Out of the Military (Gift Article) I’m trans and I serve my country.

Interestingly, this NY Times opinion piece hasn't crossed my Bluesky feed, so perhaps it didn't cross yours, either. The author, Bree Fram, is a colonel in the U.S. Space Force. She also plays disc golf. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/03/o...

What uni's should prioritize: (1) what the uni dept can offer that distinguishes itself from other offerings - e.g. dedicated guidance not available elsewhere (2) a balance of core geographic knowledge and McGyvering (the ability to learn on the fly and assemble data and tools) No silver bullet!

Hello Matt,

I want to be sure I understand the question. Can you clarify: How should unis respond to what issue(s) in particular? We, and you, shared several observations about GIS education in recent years.

The other interesting statistic? The top 18 of 20 MOOCs of 2024 (per Class Central) are not from universities, but from companies. David and Ed Team were way ahead on that one...

My recollection is that the original geoapps MOOC (Do-it-yourself Geo Apps) always had the highest completion rate of the MOOCs offered.

Today my wife Kelly recorded a new episode of Kelly's Quest www.youtube.com/playlist?lis.... I'll post when it's out. I'm proud she'll be interviewing more people and telling more stories after a year on hiatus.

She's a middle school teacher; the show is one way she advocates for trans people.

And, we learned the queer pastor with whom we dined had gotten married to her partner last week. Just like we had.

The attendees ran the gamut - old, young, black, white, dressed to the nines, dressed in jeans and hoodies, religious, not religious, with all sorts of gender expressions. The inclusiveness was heartening.

Wednesday evening I attended my first TDOR gathering. We gathered, we introduce ourselves, we solemnly read more than 100 names of individuals killed by anti-trans violence in 2024. We cried. We shared a meal and stories. Small children ran around. We exchanged contact information.

As I've seen in the past, greetings referenced "National," "World," or "International" GIS Day. To my knowledge, it's always been "just" GIS Day. I joked to colleagues that if we need a geographic boundary for the event, maybe it can be "Intergalactic GIS Day," so that it's fully inclusive.

During my work day on Wednesday I observed many individuals and organizations offering greetings for GIS Day on social media. I love that! The day is a nice reminder that GIS and geography, where I've been working for more than 30 years, are invaluable to make a better world.
