An additional idea to check into: property transfer with Life Estate.
(I’m also not an attorney. This is not legal advice.)
Another great AARP #tip to help with medical costs: Always ask these questions before taking new meds or any tests, surgeries or procedures!
• Why do I need this?
• What happens if I don’t do it?
• Are there side effects?
• Are there lower #cost options?
@q4eollo.fyi, are you aware of this?
(Yes, I know that AUS and NZ are not the same. :-) But still, much closer to you than to me.)
...to talk with your closest people about your decisions..
(Did you know that you can revise your form whenever you want?)
If you're not in Oregon, I can help you work through how to express your desires and values in a Five Wishes format.
Note: The Five Wishes document is not valid in Oregon.
If you're an Oregon resident, I can help you with the Oregon Advance Directive for Health Care, either in person or via Zoom.
We'll examine how this form can make things much easier for you and your loved ones. We can also look at possible scenarios based on your current health. And explore how...
Graphic with two columns. At the top, across both columns: "Taxes & Death," a play on the phrase, "Nothing is sure in life but death and taxes." Left column, under "Taxes": "U.S. federal and Oregon tax filing deadlines, Wednesday, April 15. Right column, under "Death": "National Healthcare Decisions Day, Thursday, April 16." Along bottom: photo-illustration of Raven [©2024] with "Raven’s Call: Aging, Serious Illness, and End-of-Life Guide, Oregon" and "©2026 Raven's Call."
Are you ready for April's big deadlines?
National Healthcare Decisions Day was created to remind you to think about what kind of medical care you would want (and what you don't want) and write it down so doctors will know how to help you.

Palliative Care through the eyes of a spiritual care provider in a small PC practice in Northern California.
Sure wish we had a similar practice on the south coast of Oregon.
It's one thing to write letters to those who've impacted your life. It's another to read each person's letter to them, out loud.
Kris Saim, who has Stage IV cancer, started a podcast to do just that. He's read 40 out of 75 letters.

"Under List's proposal, the legal provision would also require a speech pathologist to confirm the complete and irreversible loss of swallowing, and a palliative care specialist to confirm comfort care is the only remaining pathway."
Good guardrails for this proposed legislation.
I apologize for posting this on an awful day. I set it up for autopost a few days ago and didn't stop today to think about pausing it. I apologize if it made your day more difficult.

I'm chuckling. There was a time in my life, when things were particularly stressful, that I would allow myself chocolate as a reward for having eaten a healthy meal.
Yes, chocolate is crucial! At least to some of us.
Which would you choose?
More time alive? Or more time with loved ones?
We never really know how things will turn out, but medical professionals can give you an idea of how a disease will likely progress.
This film explores pros and cons of one person's choice:
Food for thought.
What are your plans for retirement?

An alliance rather than a collective. A valuable organization for finding an end-of-life practitioner and for finding out how we can help you: @nedalliance.bsky.social
#Fact: Roughly 500,000 U.S. #women exited the workforce in 2025.
42% of those who voluntarily left cited their #caregiving responsibilities as the main reason.
Employers are restricting flexible #work options & cutting back on hiring.
Women are paying the price.

Kudos to Jessica Rookeward and Tamiah Bantum for the short film "The Weight of Home," about a family #caregiver and a family member living abroad as their mother's health worsens.
Note: The film description contains many spoilers.

Thanks, Denise!
Great quote. I wish they’d let you elaborate on it.
This looks interesting and useful, Denise. Any chance you have a gift link?
Regardless, thank you for speaking up!

Connecting with others doing the same and similar work in their communities strengthens the work of each of us.
Isn’t it great to feel good, even when you’re living with a serious illness like cancer, heart failure, or COPD?
Take that opportunity to meet with your palliative care team!
