little tighter. “Do you have a catalog?”

“It would be impossible to make one,” Mal answered. “The library is infinite.”

“Infinite?” the witch rocked back on his heeled boots. “I haven’t seen anything infinite since The Infinite Drowning, a torture device used by a nasty cult over in…” he trailed off. “Sorry, that’s a bit macabre. Do you lend books here? Miss Scheffield’s library is lovely, but I can only read so many bawdy romances. Magic resources there are few and far between, and it would be nice not to have to wait on the postal system when I need to whip up a healing spell swiftly.”

Your deck is my very very favorite. I've been following it since you first started making the cards, and it's the deck I go to most often for personal and friend readings. Thank you for making it; it's absolutely stunning.

THANK YOU, EVERYONE This year has been a wild ride from start to finish and has certainly gone by faster than I could have imagined. This time last year I was so nervous about how the book would be received, but the wonderful reading community has shown nothing but support and enthusiasm for my little novel about grief and revenge. I’m looking forward to what next year brings, and I’m so excited to share more stories with the world.

I can't believe it's been a whole year!! I'm so grateful for all the readers who made this year fantastic! I've attended THIRTEEN book events and met so many really cool people. I can't wait to keep doing this, hopefully forever <3

Definitely How to Survive This Fairytale by S.M. Hallow! It's a retelling of quite a few fairytales, mainly Hansel & Gretel, Snow White, and The Wild Swans. Super queer, emotionally raw, and told in a unique way

If you're voting for the Hugos, Nebulas, Locus, or other awards, please consider this novella about queer love, recovering from trauma, and rewriting your story that CONSISTENTLY resonates with readers. People love this book. More people should know it exists.

Snake-Eater by T. Kingfisher! First book in a while that tempted me to stay up late reading to finish (alas, there's too much sleepy in my soul)

Text:Her complicated circumstances become far worse when she finds Canto, a violent criminal mage, stowing away aboard her truck. Canto has just escaped a death sentence and is on the run from the Huntsmen, the militaristic “peace-keeping” order responsible for the arrest and detainment of mages. Not content with their own tentative freedom, Canto asks for Armina’s help rescuing their mother from the Huntsmen headquarters where she’s being held captive.

Text: Hesitent to agree to such a dangerous heist when her own livelihood is already in peril, Armina agrees only to take Canto as far west as she feels comfortable. That is until Renn, a prodigy Huntsman, tracks them down, revealing that the Huntsmen are already on their trail. Armina must decide whether her personal safety---and her lingering feelings for Valaina---are more important than facing a cruel regime to save a single innocent life.

Text: Lonely Castle in the Mirror | Mizuki Tsujimura | Fantasy | Coming of Age
This was an unexpected delight. It had been on my TBR for quite a while, and I put off picking it up for some reason. I’m so glad I finally did this year. This was heart-wrenching, beautiful, and sweet, and I haven’t cried so hard reading a book in such a long time. Sure, it was 100+ pages of tears at the end, but it was the cathartic kind of crying you sometimes just really need. This book was a stunner, a 100000/10, and everyone should read it at least once.

Text: Piranesi | Susanna Clarke | Fantasy
This was one of the first books I read this year, and when I finished it I looked at my wife and said, “I just read the best book of 2025. In January.” Technically I did rank one book above this, but I consider my top three so closely tied that any given day my favorite could change. Piranesi is a nearly perfect book. Thought-provoking, wonderous, weird, tragic, joyous, and beautifully written. I’d recommend it to everyone who likes reading. Period.
