These are hard and serious discussions and decisions as you rightfully point out. But I was missing in Von der Leyen’s speech addressing the strategic reality and what to possibly do about it. The EU has potential instruments and there should be a debate about securing our own vital interests
Moral highground versus securing the interests of your own citizens. Sounds like a recipe for disaster
Not one word about clearing strait of Hormuz from sea mines with European mine hunters (Europe has over 90, USA just 4). Not one word on being a backstop for insurance companies to get ships sailing. Not one word to deploy naval escorts.
