From the last Gilded Age to the present one, elite disinterest remains one of the greatest barriers to great and inclusive public transit. This 1929 ad makes the same argument we must make today. 1/

There's always a new reason to try public transit!
Atlanta: It's the first weekday for the new bus network that we helped design. Let us know how it's going. itsmarta.com/nextgen2.aspx
We will continue to make two-dimensional maps. Because your mind can't handle the truth.
The key to understanding Sydney's high self-esteem is that everyone who lives there secretly knows that they personally designed Sydney Harbour.

A friend just told me that he lives near a Portland light rail station (82nd), goes to a therapy appointment on the same line (Goose Hollow) and drives instead of using transit only because the short-term on-street parking is free. @trimet.org
San Jose's beautiful Saint James's Park just after sunrise, as seen through an advertising wrap on a light rail train.
The mode is the message
I recently read Human Transit by @humantransit.bsky.social. Thought it was super logical, insightful, and approachable. Are there other books like that street design?
@chittimarco.bsky.social seems like you’re a real expert here, anything good for lay people?
San Jose, California: Finally getting a chance to ride the phase 1 extension of BART. Milpitas Station seems to lean into retrofuturism, as though honoring the dreams of BART's 1960s designers. Or maybe it's just trying to be mistaken for a stadium.
It's always a pleasure to me to see someone having a private moment with a plant.
That feeling when you see someone gesticulating and talking wildly in public to nobody in particular, but when you see that they're wearing AirPods, you suddenly assume they are sane.
Surprised more crazy people don't wear fake AirPods to throw us off.
Riding the light rail in San Jose, California, still looking for that photo that captures the essence of Silicon Valley.
Impressive cross-platform connection between rail and bus in downtown San Jose, California. @vta.org
IMPORTANT: “$30 million an hour: big oil reaping huge war windfall from consumers, analysis finds. Climate action blockers [excellent term] including Saudi Arabia, Russia and major fossil fuel firms set to make extra $234bn by end of 2026.”
Remember that when we’re pressured to drop tiny gas taxes.
More statues of animals. They will never disappoint us as human heroes do.
A thing Peru and California have in common: electoral systems where only the top two candidates advance to a final round, no matter how small their vote share. So now Peruvians get to choose between the daughter of a former dictator and an ultraconservative. Maybe not the best system?
When people talk about what "everyone" or "nobody" wants, they are usually describing their own personal tastes.
What we old folks looked like in 1990 when we were young and beautiful and carried around piles of paper, a calculator, and fresh rolls of coins for telephones and transit fares

Station isn't downtown so it makes the link.
The driver of this City of Golden (Colorado) shuttle has us all listening to an audiobook about the history of Rome.
The humanities can erupt anywhere. Be prepared.
Those aren't even maps. They are diagrams.
My most unpopular cartographic opinion is that numerical keys should only be used if the information really doesn't fit on the map.
Don't make your audience work more than they have to.

Definitely interested in everyone's ideas.

Pleasant days exploring greater Denver's RTD network, as we get ready to start work on a transit plan here.
Ask any driver!
The fare is not the main barrier to usage. If there were the money for that, I would rather spend it on better service.
