I feel this all the time on YouTube. I know there's great content (an endless amount, more than consumable in one lifetime) but the decision paralysis is real. Wasted hours watching one minute of this, 2 minutes of that. I loved the feeling of buying an album or DVD and bringing that home to watch.

There's more context to new art than just the prior art in that genre before it.
But better to think of them as a phase shift. A discrete break from what came before it. Just like you wouldn't be able to get to Impressionism or microtonal music if you just trained an AI (again, as it current is) on all the music up to 1700.
And AI (as it is currently architected) probably wouldn't have come up with those genres. It would've just remixed everything that came before it, but those genres weren't just that. It was certainly influenced by music before it, sure.

This is pretty great! I do wish they used different colors. Iโve done data viz stuff for a long time, and we had these issues at CNN too. But for someone red-green colorblind those Cuomo and Mamdani colors are hard to distinguish. Blue and purple are not friends
