Great to see a pair of red kites very close to home today. First time I’ve seen them in this area and hoping they’re here to stay.
Flat illustration of an Osprey against a bright blue sky holding a fish in their talons. The fish is the exact color of the sky and overlaps slightly.
I am a Japanese artist who loves the sky. Do you love the sky?
A map of Scotland with red and grey dots representing squirrel sightings.
Here’s what our sightings map looks like so far for 2026! We’d love to cover as much of Scotland as possible, so keep an eye out for both red and grey squirrels if you live in or visit one of the gaps.

Three watercolour landscape paintings of snow in the Pennine Hills
There’s the three. Snow in January on a Calderdale little farm. Lots went wrong but lots went right and I’m happy. That’s all the snow pics now until it returns.
Black and white border collie looking straight at the viewer with deep brown eyes. The ear on the right is tipped whilst the one on the left is dropped. The background is a mix of autumn undergrowth in shades of brown and green.
My girl Nessa is 4 today.
Wouldn’t get out for half as many walks to enjoy nature without the company of her and my other dogs.

A dead branch against a background of dead leaves. The branch has white ice formed along it that looks like hair or candy floss.
Another first for me aka another dog walk bonus. Hair Ice in the local woods today. Apparently a fungus, Exidiopsis Effusa causes it on rotting broadleaved wood in certain conditions.

Jay for me.
A frosty morning in the woods. Scots Pine trees against a blue sky. Low winter sun shining through them. Bilberry bushes and dead bracken covered in frost beneath the trees.
Lovely winter’s morning in the woods today.

Thanks for hosting it again Jay, great event to take part in.
A young border collie lying in the snow looking up at his owner. He’s looking straight at the viewer. He is traditionally marked with white fur around his black nose, a narrow white blaze up to his forehead, a white ruff of fur and a white chest. He has a lovely ‘soft’ expression.
#ArtAdventCalendar Day24
I started with a drawing of my dog Obi and I’m going to finish with another drawing of him when he was about 6 months old.

Abstract landscape: wavy dark blue clouds with a late sunset over a lake with small beach, Full moon in upper right
This piece was in our main library in 2015 for a couple of months & a woman told me she would stop by on her lunch break & just sit & look at it almost daily because it gave her some peace. Few better compliments.

Thank you.
Thank you. They did.
A coloured pencil drawing of a mountain hare in snow. Drawn on warm grey paper. There are snowflakes falling, and the hare is in the bottom right of the image, hunkered down.
Day twenty-three of #ArtAdventCalendar
Here is a coloured pencil drawing of a mountain hare in the snow.
An old tree trunk covered with moss and snow snaking up through the picture. The foreground trunk is in strong colours against a pale blue grey sky and distant trees.
#ArtAdventCalendar Day 23
Another old one. A watercolour of a snow covered tree trunk.
An unusual viewpoint, I liked the close up snow, moss and bark on the main trunk snaking up against the distant trees and sky.
