One of the things I love about NixOS is that it very often gives you sane defaults when it comes to configuring services

Nix (more specifically: NixOS) literally fixes this. /etc/ is immutable and is just set to a symlink into a /nix/store path, so anything that breaks /etc is completely reversible

i used to use deploy-rs. i now just use nixos-rebuild with the --target-host flag. but i still do recommend deploy-rs. however, i wouldn't go near nixops or colmena in this modern decade
