dropping two of my favorite games of the console gen so far like barely two months apart and not even ending it there cuz there's a brand new fucking ONIMUSHA on the way is absolute insanity to me

phenomenal game! Capcom firing on all cylinders for a brand new IP is inspiring to see. Heartfelt, original, gorgeous, technically flawless, thoroughly fun. Packed with replay value, too. A minor gripe here and there aside, I'd put this up there with the best of the gen thus far.

it's my dream game. 4R showed they still know exactly what they're doing with it, & there's now a fuckton of free content to reuse and adapt to its format thanks to the sheer amount of RE Engine titles. If there were ever a grand opportunity for an asset dump, a console Mercs game is IT

they did that with the PS4/XB1/Switch versions, it's awesome!

Mercs 3D is awesome for what it's allowed to be, I absolutely loved the increased arcade-feel, the "bosses", the ability to swap load outs. Its just so obviously held back and barebones because of hardware and budget limitation 😭 plus the exclusion of Leon and Ada will just always make me go "HUH?!"

it was a loooooong journey but one that is apparently worth the wait (and based on the demo, it already was)

really happy about the Pragmata reviews! 6 years later and we're finally here lmao. It's awesome to see Capcom at the peak of their success creating original titles and putting big money into new IPs like with this and Kunitsu-Gami (which was excellent!)

if RE2R can do PS1 skins and REVerse can do Umbrella Chronicles and RE6 skins then a fan servicey ass Mercenaries game should have no problem extending the PS1 models to Jill, Chris, Ada, Wesker and HUNK 🙂‍↕️

it nails the "arcade" feeling the best of them all. It's very straightforward and quick and I think that's what gives it the edge. I do love RE6's more frantic, balls to the wall approach & 4R's higher emphasis on character individuality but 5 just hit the sweet spot all around.

a bigger budget (not like, remakes or Requiem tier) multi-console Mercenaries game featuring a ton of characters, maps, weapons and enemies from the RE Engine era alongside some new stuff in the way of melee attacks for those lacking, some sorta level up system, etc is literally dream material

the concept of a (albeit very fun) asset flip spin-off exclusive to one handheld console that was also promoting an original, larger entry at the same time not hitting sales expectations and that being used as enough reason to not make another one is, unfortunately, extremely likely 😭

RE4R Mercs is soooo good, that was an awesome change! Plus adding in Luis, the alt versions of Leon and Ada with different load outs and "Mayhem Mode" further giving every character unique abilities. When Mercs comes back again I wanna see them retain that formula, BUT WITH CO-OP***
