This was part of a regional effort by different countries in the Horn of #Africa to stop human trafficking. I hope this continues, traffickers need to be stopped

What Cities Can Learn from the Africa Region’s First Electric BRT - Institute for Transportation and Development Policy To meet global climate goals, ITDP research shows that cities must both reduce vehicle trips and electrify the remaining vehicles. Electrification discussions often focus on private cars, which dominate trips in high-income countries. In low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), however, most trips occur on public transport and two-wheelers — segments that have received less attention. Electrifying public buses is a key strategy to decarbonize urban transport, reduce vehicle numbers, and improve efficiency. Yet high upfront costs and infrastructure challenges have continued to slow down adoption across LMICs. In 2025, Dakar, Senegal, commenced full operations for the region’s first all-electric bus

Senegal is leading with electric BRT. Great report from ITDP. Since Dakar's e-BRT launch in 2024:

-Provides access to 180,000 jobs.
-Cut travel time from 90mins to 45mins, end-to-end.
-Helps serve 720,000 passengers daily
-Est. reduce CO2 by 59,000 tons/year.

I think that this density is a net good bc public services are easier to provide to denser populations than sparsely populated ones, economies tend to be improve with density, and having such a large population will give Africa bigger leverage in global politics.

A map showing Africa’s population density patterns

A map showing Africa’s population density patterns

Africa was a sparsely populated continent for a long time but luckily that has been changing for the last 80 years.

Africa's pop. in 1945 was estimated to be around 200 million. For context this was Europe's in 1500s. Africa's currently hads 1.5bn people, around what Asia's was in 1960s. 🧵1/3

And with a network of safe cycleways, cycling is booming - with an average of 1.5m trips a day.

And there's much more to come 🚲🚲🚲

The future of DC calls for safe streets, fast and frequent public transit, and far more housing than we currently have.

Making DC affordable for working families requires us to unlock barriers to housing and a transportation system that works for all of us.

Let's work together to get it done! ✅

Chicago New Plan: Faster Buses = Freedom
Chicago New Plan: Faster Buses = Freedom YouTube video by Heartland Urbanist

Better Buses = Better Cities

The reality: rail can't go everywhere. Buses are the backbone of transit, filling critical gaps and feeding into rail networks.

And don't forget—many cities don't have rail at all. In those places, the bus is king and should be treated as such.

Electric mobility infrastructure is developing much faster in India than Germany, reducing dependency on fossil fuel imports.

Case railway network electrification:

Germany's 'ambitious' plan: from 62% to 80% in 11 years.

India: from 50% to 94% in 5 years.

Is there a way to bridge an ATproto appview instance with an activitypub instance?

Now that the Blacksky appview is a thing, (and hopefully other appviews emerge as well) it would be great if an appview/instance level bridge was possible?
