Twitter uses algorithms that ensure that 90% of the most visible accounts will be on the far right politically. Here's why Bluesky has an intellectual diversity problem.

That doesn't have to be everyone's line! I'm sure it's easier to brush off if you didn't have to read their emails laughing about how they were going to do it, and then their interviews claiming that they must be allowed to do it for PROGRESS and progress also means replacing you!
It's bad PR!
Can I opt out of everything? Obviously not.
But, you know, I'm mad they took something I was so excited about and made it both sketchy and stupid while derailing so much progress we could have been making on non-sketchy and also non-stupid versions, so here we are.
it's mind blowing to think about how much Elon fumbled his legacy. ten years ago 'wide swathes of the federal govt fleet will potentially be electrified' would have been met with massive adulation from liberals and the left. now people are (very understandably) against it because he's so untrusted.
the right perceives the shift to the left among highly educated white collar workers as being the result of a hostile occupation of the workplace by rebellious female secretaries (HR) instead of the more obvious conclusion that republican policies are no longer aligned with their economic interests
This is a lie used to push liberals away from the only fighting politician institutions on the left in the US. More unionists voted for Harris than Biden. The modal active union member (as opposed to retiree) is a woman in a school or hospital, not a cartoon polish guy in a hard hat.
it does seem like a structural problem that the right has found a way to use misogyny to transmute anger at corporations in to conservativism
like even to the extent I'm used to Stoller being a piece of shit, this is just him reblogging a video of a female politician and saying "this is what layoffs look like, ladies"
what the actual fuck.
Really interesting to consider how this would shake out. This rhymes with external fee-for-hire recruiting firms, which famously suck for candidate experience in favor of volume. But this version only works at scale if candidate experience comes first.
a map showing a Mississippi where all 82 counties are shades of red
A map showing Mississippi's 82 counties, many shaded red and pink, many shaded blue and purple.
Left: How people think Mississippi votes
Right: How Mississippi actually votes
And somehow it’s only Taking A Side if you’re pointing out problems caused by a Republican. Otherwise just good fair journalism.
Women and men who choose to be decent no longer tolerate men who are creepy, bigoted, entitled, abusive turds.
A lot about the world is very heavy right now but if a college football podcast that got jettisoned by Vox during the pandemic for not having a marketable audience can raise this much money for refugees in Atlanta in two days then just think of all the stuff we can all do together
this is also how we get so many idiotic private-public partnerships. either nationalize the shit or not!
This is great by Jefferies. Hope we see much more of this!
Really think the game being played with futures markets is leaving a lot of folks unprepared for the future which now seems functionally locked in.
If supply is down 10m barrels a day, then demand will, eventually, have to conform and that is going to be unpleasant.
So they're going to need a 'fight' president and they're going to need a working 'fight' caucus that can wield a democratic majority.
And I think there's a good chance the voters will give it to them.
Often say this but even as a driver I genuinely love how London is so quickly becoming a cycling city. 10-15 years ago none of this was possible
It's just wild watching a bunch of people light their ethical credibility on fire for a pittance. All those years they acted as if they cared about propriety & moral hygiene, & they were lying!
I'm sorry it's just weird to see a story putting forth someone who went back out for mercenary service as anti-war, I need a minute
I make no claims to political prognostication, but to me one of the significant things about Virginia redistricting is it is another indicator of where anti-Trump voters - both Dems and independents - are on the 'fight/no-fight' axis.
'Fight' keeps being the election-winning stance.
BENNET: Do you agree that 89% of children who died from flu were unvaccinated?
RFK Jr: I don't know the exact number
BENNET: That is the exact number, Secretary Kennedy
RFK Jr: *death growls*
BENNET: You took down the HHS communications promoting the flu vaccine. Do you regret that?
YOU CAN BAN ACCESS TO THE AMERICAN BANKING SYSTEM FOR THOSE THAT WON'T COMPLY
How did anyone get the idea that shame, scolding, and other negative reactions have never persuaded anyone of anything?
They're some of the most persuasive forces in human society. Online, they don't work on reflexively defiant posters, but on the more numerous observers. Some observers, sometimes.
Dems just forced House Republicans to pull votes on a bill to weaken the Endangered Species Act, after their support buckled. Happy Earth Day! 🌎 🌏🌎
Oh for fuck's sake.
Dude is blocking via list and it's not just petty, it'll break functionality?
Dear bluesky staff: SEPARATE YOUR PERSONAL AND PRO ACCOUNTS.
In honor of Earth Day: a thread of environmental wins
Waldo Jaquith @waldo.net My family has two EVs and two solar arrays, so powering our cars costs nothing. I want the entire country to feel like we do about gas prices. [name redacted] We rent. Must be nice to travel for free, we have to work daily to be able to afford the cost of transportation. This post comes across as really tone deaf.
This is amazing—it's going in my personal hall of fame.
