As if to make up for our Swift family finally leaving on their long journey home. I had a surprise last night, as usual, I put food out for Boss, our visiting hedgehog, only to discover that we now have two hogs visiting our garden. It was a lovely surprise, and I’m delighted. ❤️🦔🦔❤️
This morning, I rolled over in bed and was fortunate enough to see a swift leave the nest box, followed ‘swiftly’ by another. 🙂Our chicks had fledged and were on their way home! I wished them a safe journey. It was a bittersweet moment as they had been such good company over the summer months. 💚 🐦

This year’s Noctule 🦇 pups are well developed already, judging by footage from this morning. I originally set up the Secacam 7 so we knew bats were present at a remote roost before setting off on the 1.5 hour drive to monitor them, but the insight into how bats are using this roost is so valuable

A handsome poplar hawkmoth. I couldn't believe it when I saw him perched outside my bat flight in broad daylight. I kept him safe during the day and released him later that night.
It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do little. Do what you can.
A rather wet parent blue tit is holding onto the outside of the nest box. The chick is safe and dry inside, andwaiting to be fed. The chick's face is peeping out, its bright yellow beak wide open.

The government’s Land Use consultation is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to intervene in this critical issue. Here’s my response to it. Please feel free to borrow / copy & paste as much as you want. It’s crucial that we engage. www.monbiot.com/2025/03/23/f...
1/3 🧵
Responses must be in by April 25. You don’t have to respond at anything like this length. Just make sure your voice is heard, and the consultation is not dominated by landowners demanding business as usual: a disaster for ecosystems and our own wellbeing. consult.defra.gov.uk/land-use-fra... 2/3
If we don't respond, the answers will be dominated by the very people who got us into this mess.
Decisions about land use all too often fall prey to reactionary politics.
So please, even if only briefly, fill out the consultation form.
Thanks.
