Lovely!!!!
So well stated!
I had a similar experience recently when one of the reviewers on a paper I was reviewing had a whole AI-generated page, but it critiqued the wrong methodology entirely. Yet, it was submitted!!!!! I am petrified. I'm now fully expecting this behavior to show up in grant review as well. YIKES!!!!
🚨 Our new paper is out! 🙌
Bioorthogonal reactions often create bulky, non-native linkages-great for labeling, but not ideal for installing natural PTMs.
We combine GCE with a chemoselective amide-bond forming reaction to install site-specific acylation PTMs.

Congratulations!
I only wish the algorithms get better! But, this is so much a better space!
We are looking for Postdoctoral Fellows with expertise in Structural Biology. Expertise in CryoEM/CryoET is required. Come join us in St. Louis to work on some amazing enzyme complexes.

If you're interested in the regulation and/or evolution of complex cell behavior, this could serve as an opportunity to join our lab as a postdoc. I would be happy to consult on proposal development if we've got a good alignment of goals, skills, and interests. DMs or emails welcome.
Sending in the R01 grant with authority.......and then the reviews come back! We now have the perfect video to sum up this experience 😂
Congrats Mark! Good start to the year indeed!
SMC and recombination enthusiasts: we updated our work describing the loop extrusion properties of budding yeast condensin and its function in biasing donor usage for mating-type switching. Lots of cool new data, check it out!

“This should be straightforward“
The sentence that really worries my team when I utter it during meetings with collaborators 🤣
I think some folks might be happy to see this. NIGMS MIRA R35 for EI/NI has been published. PAR-26-121 files.simpler.grants.gov/opportunitie...
What does phosphorylation do to RPA?
This has been a long-standing question in the field of genome integrity.
In our newest publication in Nature Communications rdcu.be/eT4z3 with @proforiganti.bsky.social , we reveal the answer.
Thanks to funding from NIGMS to our groups.
CryoET exploration today - come on Santa!!!!!!!
I think a lot of folks are turning down ms reviews. I've done close to 25 this year and it was 10 in the last two months alone. Have another one sitting on my desk! I can never decline as there were so many reviewers who handled our manuscripts this year.
Good news- they are continuing to do administrative supplements but the specific dates for NIGMS are unclear!
2025 has been quite a successful year in terms of scientific discoveries, publications, grants, etc. But, boy-o-boy, the one word to describe my year and all the uncertainties ........... EXHAUSTED!
9/10 emails I get from prospective students/postdoc candidates are Ai-generated. I do respond nevertheless with a simple rejection. Its quite disappointing as they might actually be decent and could be considered, but I cannot differentiate what is being masked.
POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY
We need a structural biologist to work on several CryoEM datasets. For more information, please visit: www.antonylab.org
Expertise in structure refinement and model-building are required.
Please share.
From your friendly neighborhood SRO: thanks to everyone for their patience while we work to make these rescheduled meetings happen.

Congratulations to all involved. Raises more questions about all the backup mechanisms in HR. So much to unpack here!
See our paper “Mechanism of trinucleotide repeat expansion by MutSβ-MutLγ and contraction by FAN1”. Using biochemistry, we show how DNA incisions by the MutLγ nuclease can lead to expansions, and how expansion is prevented by FAN1. Well done Issam and Valentina!

This is super cool!
Congratulations on a fantastic study.
Looking forward to trying out these tricks in our ncAA incorporation setup.

Have you ever looked at the night sky and wondered if there’s a chlorophyll f in the reaction centre of Photosystem I from far-red light adapted cyanobacteria? 🦠
Well, we did (don’t judge) and the work that followed is now out as a First Release in @science.org
