There’s a bird that keeps trying to fuck its own reflection in a car window on my street. It shits all down the side of the car in the process. The bird doesn’t realize how much it has in common with the current President of the United States of America 👀

I can still believe in this project, without dropping literally everything else to get it done. It will always be there to work on, and I think that should be more a comfort than a burden in my mind. Sorry for rambling, just doing some mental karate 👊

I have to keep reminding myself:

“You do this in your free time, this isn’t your day job, you don’t need to keep up with artists that do it for a living.”

And yet… I keep guilting myself for taking days off (that I definitely need), or spending time gardening or gaming instead. Gaah, bad brain!

Claire's hands shake as she views the picture, because it makes her think of poor Finn and how brave she used to be.

Got my hydrangeas, blueberry, and raspberry bushes planted yesterday. Also got a fig tree in, which I’m very excited for. Still insanely hectic on the life side of things, so new art posts will be few and far between (sorry, but I gotta soak up the gorgeous spring weather before summer rears up 🙂‍↕️)

The Spaceman Spiff comics from Calvin & Hobbes were always my favorites. I always love Watterson’s backgrounds in general, but the colors he uses for these are so gorgeous.

Something that helps for me is to try to recognize bad thought patterns in the moment and, if I can ascribe them to a specific parent’s abuse, literally say out loud: “STFU [parents name], I didn’t ask for your opinion because I don’t value it anymore.” It can be pretty cathartic lol

Reading good fiction always refills my creative cup when I feel I’ve run myself a bit dry.

Zed looks for rocks in an overgrown patch of sage that belongs to Elder Rolynd. Some of the most treasured pieces in his collection have come from here. He espies a particularly beautiful specimen, with the imprint of a leaf relieved into the surface. Gnarled roots are visible, and the leaves cast their patchwork shadows about him. Zed's eyes bulge in surprise and delight, as he carefully begins to reach for the rock, as if it might grow legs and scurry away if he moves too aggressively.

Something magical happens to drawings of spaceships as soon as you also draw people standing near it. “Oh… big…!”, I say to myself as the scale of it clicks in my brain and I’m filled with wonder and amazement 😝

I think the AI-era of the internet is crushing my soul a bit. It’s truly one of the most wicked pieces that Capitalism has played thus far. Art is how we make sense of the world, so obviously they want to destroy it. If we’re all lost and confused, it makes us easier to take advantage of.

I'm loving that releasing professional live-recordings of Broadway performances is getting more common. Nothing beats seeing the show in person, but that's not always in the cards money-wise. This is helping make theater more accessible for folks, which is so important!

Funnily enough, Seeker started off as an extremely ambitious (terribly-scoped) solodev video game. I started writing this story because I had hit the limits of my programming ability and didn't want to just bin the whole thing. Now Seeker is a terribly-scoped book!
