Washington literally mandated smallpox inoculation for the Continental Army in 1777. First mass military vaccination in American history. Ordered by the guy on the dollar bill.

The "manly soldiers don't need medicine" crowd has never cracked a history book.

Have you considered taking those rejected letters and self publishing them as a blog? Something like @f2harrell.bsky.social's Statistical Thinking? Although the never enough time issue is still there...

Bill Cassidy MD owns the child sickness, suffering & deaths that will result from RFK Jr’s anti-vaccine policies

Dr Cassidy cast the deciding vote in the Senate Finance Committee to confirm RFK Jr as HHS Sec—yet he knew full well that RFK Jr is the world’s most extreme, dangerous anti-vaxx activist

When you mix #vaccine policy with politics all you get is dead children.

ROTJ is my favourite but I do concede that ESB is the better movie.

TFA doesn't really add anything interesting from a larger perspective due to the fact that it's essentially a plagiarized ANH & it sets up most of the things people didn't like about TLJ regarding Luke.

Close but not quite:

1. ESB
2. ROTJ
3. SW
4. ROTS
5. RO
6. TLJ
7. TPM
8. AOTC
9. Solo
10. TFA (fight me)
11. ROS

Doctors Without Borders is deeply disappointed to see #Canada’s cuts to aid reflected in its reduced pledge to the #GlobalFund.

Such cuts will fuel the reversal of progress in the fight against HIV, TB and malaria.

Vaccines do not cause autism.

Keep saying things that have been demonstrated by robust science and are the subject or organised disinformation. Don’t just ignore the attempts to brainwash.

Canada is currently experiencing a large, multi-jurisdictional outbreak of measles that began in October 2024 with cases in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories. While transmission has slowed recently, the outbreak has persisted for over 12 months, primarily within under-vaccinated communities.

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has notified the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) that Canada no longer holds measles elimination status. PAHO's Measles and Rubella Elimination Regional Monitoring and Re-Verification Commission reviewed recent epidemiological and laboratory data, confirming sustained transmission of the same measles virus strain in Canada for a period of more than one year.

UPDATE: Canada has announced that it has lost its measles elimination status.

This is a direct result of the increase in anti-vax disinformation, which has caused large, sustained outbreaks in the country over the last year.

Canada budget update: A $2.7bn cut to international assistance over 5 years, or about 10-12% of the budget. Particularly focusing on global health, which is worrying because it's a core Canadian priority

Not sure we need a resurgence of polio on top of everything, but what do I know

Other countries are not coming to save scientific research & academia. Maybe to poach a few high-profile scholars. But no one is going to do things at scale to replace 🇺🇸, & most every other rich country is also doing educational austerity.

There are (theoretically) ways to do causal effect estimation with simulated data. This was the topic of my doctoral thesis. But there are many many ways to get it wrong and simply reproduce your starting assumption as if it were a finding.

CDC team running top survey on health and nutrition is laid off NHANES has collected data on eating patterns, diabetes, and other common diseases for decades. The CDC team that runs it has been fired.

Ugh... This study has existed for decades, providing valuable health data for all sorts of topics and publications. This is just more awful news. 🛟😷 Sociology medsky

MMWR stole the show in the first round of headlines about CDC cuts but in the chaos, many missed that the NHANES mobile team remains RIF'd. This is the backbone of this key survey that contains some of the only representative anthropometric, biochemical, clinical and dietary data on the country.

NHANES runs mobile clinics that travel the country measuring height, weight, & blood pressure while collecting blood and urine samples. These samples are our only national source for tracking everything from blood sugar to hormones, heavy metals, and more.

The entire operation has been eliminated.

The Trump administration has been spreading anti-vaccine propaganda for months. Tonight, Trump's physician announced he just received a flu shot and a COVID booster.

You would not fire these people—including the staff of the hugely, HUGELY important 'Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report'—if you cared at all about public health, if you wanted people to live.

And you would not let your thuggish henchmen fire people like this if you were a responsible president.

There are more ways of knowing things than just RCTs. Yes randomized trials are a great tool for answering all kinds of questions but they can't be used for everything. Making causal inferences from observational data is a fascinating field at the intersection of philosophy, math & content knowledge

Sec Kennedy said he doesn’t know how many people died of COVID in the US. But cites what percentage of world COVID deaths occurred in the US. US deaths divided by worldwide deaths X 100. So either he knows how many people died in the US or doesn’t know percentages.

I mean let's say you're a terrible person and you don't care about children but only about money and work.

It might still be worth it to vaccinate.

Think about that.
