This meeting is Klassic Kouncil, btw.

I’m sorry that most of you don’t get to see it and that none of us can watch it back later.

Watching the resumed abandoned-in-March Limerick Council meeting on a phone screen and also typing this on the same screen.

If the meeting starts, might have periodic updates.

Look at the difference between this and the narrow cycle lanes provided on the Cork Luas project, even where the route is planned to go through open green space:

“Copenhagen reported that 62% of its residents are now commuting to work or school by bike — an increase from 52% in 2015 & 36% in 2012, when the City Council launched a 14-year-plan to improve the quality, safety & comfort of cycling.”

#Copenhagen chose. They keep choosing even better every year.

Alternative options on the table for controversial road between two Limerick communities Limerick City and County Council set to present new routes for road linking Woodview and Moyross

#Limerick Woodview residents say Coonagh–Knocklisheen Rd means Moyross doesn’t need a direct route to TUS

48% of Moyross households have no car vs 10% in Woodview

"Just drive" isn’t an option for all. Equal access means routes for walking and cycling as well

Longish thread about cycling a cargo bike around Limerick and the bike itself. After trialing a cargo bike Pat and @limerickecargobike.bsky.social - we decided to buy this bike from Decathlon. We have over 1000km done since October. We go every morning - regardless of the weather.

I spoke about the Government’s ridiculous proposal to criminalise cyclists who don’t wear helmets 🪖

The fact they even proposed this betrays their complete lack of understanding of what makes our roads unsafe for cyclists & pedestrians 🚗🚙 @labour.ie @dublincycling.bsky.social

Letter to Irish Times

The notion that ever more garish clothing will compensate for distracted driving is a convenient fiction. No amount of fluorescent fabric can counteract the motorist scrolling on their phone or the driver travelling too fast.

Having rowed back on lowering speed limits and reforming the Road Safety Authority, Minister Canney is now doubling down on the RSA's failed policies by scapegoating the most vulnerable on the road instead of following evidence-based measures to make our roads safer.

This I would also think is very rarely and only on motorways and the like. Ambulances aren’t going to be doing 150 through city streets.

I exclude emergency vehicles from the hard limit, but would of course expect any exceeding it to be tracked and audited. And specifically with trained drivers.

Not for typical vehicles. I say private vehicles but I guess I just mean non-emergency vehicles.
