Found a copy of the 1977 Holmes Basic D&D rules at NW's Largest Garage Sale.

So well loved they colored in the art and added their own items to the equipment list! Love this so much.

OSE is consolidating next year to just be the Advanced Fantasy books going forward. Which means the OSR needs a brave soul to step up and release the next B/X clone.

I wrote about the ubiquity of guilds of thieves and assassins in AD&D, why they might declare war on outsiders or each other, and how you can (& why you should) get the player characters mixed up in the middle! #AD&D #OSR

Nice!
I really like the weapon priority system because of all the tactical depth it adds with very lite mechanics.

The advantage of Big Stupid Tables over generative AI is generative AI necessarily produces outputs that are likely to appear in its training data, while the outputs of a good set of dice tables may consist mainly of combinations of elements never before attempted on account of being dumb as hell.

ofCthulhu's one-shot od&d rules (V 0.1) house rules that encourage reckless abandon and fast chaotic gameplay.

These are the house rules that i use for od&d one-shots. Their goal is to encourage reckless abandon and mayhem.

A Lock With No Key: Designing Obstacles for OSR Play A blog post about how to think about and design obstacles when designing adventures for OSR systems.

This is my favorite kind of blog post. It provides a neat way of conceptualizing obstacles in osr type of games.

i started playing solo od&d at the beginning of February. It's more fun than i expected. and requires more work and discipline than i expected.
it's also a great for those of us who want to take deeper dives into game worlds than we probably could with our regular gaming groups.

First edition Rifts had, for a lack of better term, a really punk aura. It just seemed dangerous. It capture the attention and focus of teenager-me for a long time.

I also played West End's SW RPG fairly early in my gaming career. It made a huge impact on development as an ttrpg player.

Nice! Mage: The Ascension is a hell of game to start with. I also played it early on. My friends and I saw all of its potential, but couldn't quite figure out how to leverage it in play.

I played 2 games before i got to D&D. The Palladium Fantasy Role Playing Game was my first #ttrpg. Then I played Rifts, also by Palladium Books (aaaaa looooottttttt) before my first (A)D&D (2nd ed) game.

Same here. I think it would be really cool to experience Greyhawk through Rolemaster 2e lenses.

Don't use Meta anything.

Don't use Google anything.

Don't use Microsoft anything.

Twitter is already dead, so no worries there.

If you have to use this stuff for work, I understand and commiserate.

Otherwise, save the whining, thanks. Those things will ALWAYS be shit, and will only grow worse.

Life lesson from tonight’s D&D (playing Old School Essentials) session — don’t trust magic items of dubious origin. They might force you to do stuff you don’t want to.

Unsure of whether this needs a name or it simply being “The dungeon portion of one of the Pyramids” is good enough.

I wracked my brain this time trying to incorporate secret passages between different elevations on this level.

My take on the Caves of Chaos. A much smaller dungeon/cave complex, due to it being a part of a larger adventure locale with an above ground pyramid ruins section and other dungeons (including the ones in this post)

Trying something new here, a mix of Temple of Elemental Evil + Caves of Chaos.
