The main way to improve the reading sat would be to take the time element out of it. They can either read and understand it or they can’t. What’s an hour got to do with anything? Let them do it till they’re finished if you want to know if they can read.

Third book of 2025 finished.

All teachers should read it. Many (most?) of us will teach and know children living in poverty, like the main character, Will.

It is beautifully written and deeply confronting; the sense of Will’s constant state of being on high alert radiates…

Book one of the year underway; I’m going to reinvigorate my love of reading, fiction in particular. Truth is, I still love reading but have a real concentration/focus issue with it and only complete books on holiday now 🤪

I like to do things to help our JLT feel professional like teach them to shake hands and introduce themselves. I gave our head and deputy pupils a folder with a notebook etc. One of our head pupils shared this in our meeting last week. Give them the tools and they rise to it.

I think I’ve been pronouncing my own name wrong most of my life. 😅

I make an effort to say everyone’s name correctly and model to children that it’s ok to ask someone if you’re not sure – more than ok in fact, important. Great chat 😊
