Me too. Our systems and the things we'd written for customers weren't world ending if they failed, but we still rewrote stuff for 4 digit years and everything was fine.

Awesome! If you get stuck then @heredragons.be has done a SCART adapter for these beasts and others, it works really well.

I’ll find out if they still function once I can get it successfully powered up, hopefully over the next couple of days.

Nope, for the last 20 years it’s been with me in 2 different garages, and for all the time before that it was with Camputers. I wish we WERE closer to the sea! Well, I wish *I* was 😄

Did you come across much frame collapse?

Probably!

Oh aye, we’ve had this conversation before 😆

Aye, this is a module from the Acorn A3000 I restored last year. Odd stuff.

Replacements for those parts ordered, and it just so happens I have 4 TDA1170S in stock thanks to saving all the parts bins at work when everything was getting binned a few years ago. Profit!

A pic of components on the CUB video board. Again we have a potentiometer covered in what looks like coconut, a fusible 10ohm resistor that looks like it may have gone pop, and a strange device marked as TL201 which looks like the little spaceship you control in the arcade hit Galaxians.

R235 here is a 10ohm 0.5w fusible resistor. It looks like it’s slightly exploded.

Out of circuit it measures 20ohms. Also in the circuit is a 1000uF capacitor which currently measures 880uF so it’s just in spec, but together these form the voltage for the TDA1170S horizontal control chip.

COCONUT! Yes, that’s what it reminded me of. Ta.

Aliens! Aliens who are obliterated by IPA and a toothbrush 😄

Originally? No idea. Possibly. Reading the forums today it seems it’s either field collapse or frame collapse depending on how old your parents were.

A pair of black potentiometers on the driver board of the CUB monitor. They’re covered in white flakes and what looks like radioactive deposits in hot turquoise. No, I don’t know either.

Another supposedly black potentiometer covered in white flakes and radioactive looking blue deposits. The board it’s soldered to resembles a pair of jeans since it’s the same colour as faded blue Levi’s.

Finally dug out the Microvitec 1441 CUB that Camputers used to use at trade shows back in the day. When I last powered it up in 2018 it had suffered field collapse, so since it’ll be on show at RetroFest (May 30/31, STEAM, Swindon) I’d best fix it eh.

First off, interesting crust on the pots.

If you’re not aware of it, I highly recommend you find ‘The Other Rock Show’ hosted by Marina Organ on ResonanceFM. There are replays of the shows going back to 2016 and it’s full of ‘wonky’ music, math rock and of course Cardiacs.

These days, most of my car-based trips are for shopping, and I accidentally discovered after an eye test (which meant I couldn't drive afterwards) that the bus to my village stops outside Sainsbos. Currently this is made of win.

Very similar, if you add some letters and take some away.

Story in a recent Sport was that he'd been eaten by a crocodile. No mention of how many creme eggs were up the croc's bum.

I can't even remember what the Limpet board connector is. Replaceable?

Despite the proliferation of decent screen editors on linux these days I still automatically type 'vi', particularly for quick edits. Painless.
