Getting a PhD and then working outside academia is dope. My advisees who’ve done that are more or less uniformly happy and feel that they’re using the skills they trained on. (I talked to one today who just landed a great gig). Just wanted to convey that to anyone it might benefit.

It remains notable that The Onion — The Onion! — has had a stronger moral compass and more clear set of values in this moment than nearly every powerful and well-funded institution in American life.

$1,700 is roughly the FIT burden of a household of three filing joint making 65k, to put that into tax perspective.

kash about to find out the reason trump has had success with this tactic is that everyone he does it to finds settlements a really easy way to bribe him

nobody's got any reason to bribe a failed podcaster who will soon be out of a job

It’s finally happened. After 18 months. Finally, a media merger you can root for.

COMMENTARY: AI in schools could be a disaster, but it doesn’t have to be We need leaders at all levels — but especially at the state level where policy is usually made — to offer districts clearer support and guidelines about appropriate and inappropriate uses.

My newest, at @edsource.org--I really worry about the impact of AI on k-12 schools. Here, I talk about my concern, drawing on our recent survey data, and offer a couple ideas for what leaders can do to support educators and reduce the risks of disaster edsource.org/2026/ai-revo...

It's notable that Sen. Ossoff is pressing this attack in a tight re-election fight in a purple state. The rest of the party needs to pay attention.

Well labor scarcity only results if supply is falling faster than demand which we haven’t really seen but fully agree the idea of population crisis is just bad framing

Falling birth rates are in the chat again--it is a global trend across cutlures/religions & is speeding up not slowing reflecting rising education & living standards, access to health care (⬇️ teen rates is 👍) & the fact that our bundles of joy are cost centers not factors of production. Good stuff!

Falling fertility, debt and AI: is the US headed toward a population crisis? Americans having fewer kids plus an ageing population could be a recipe for disaster that further erodes social stability

I’m old so I get to say this

Declining fertility

… sucks for old people who can’t hire cheap labor or sell their homes high

… benefits the smaller, next generation that gets capital at a fire sale + wage hikes driven by labor scarcity

See the Black Death

Why Yale’s term paper on what’s wrong with college gets a ‘D-’ | Will Bunch An Ivy League university's report on the loss of faith in higher ed ignores what really killed the American Dream of college.

That Yale report on what's wrong with U.S. college saw some trees (high cost, unfair admission, etc.) but missed the forest: the 60-year right-wing crusade to undermine higher ed, from slashing budgets to stifling speech

How to really fix college. My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/yale...
