Agreed. We should not gerrymander as revenge. That implies that we wouldn’t gerrymander if they voluntarily didn’t. We should gerrymander because it’s good when Democrats win elections, and if there’s a danger of revenge, we can just congressionally ban gerrymandering nationwide. With our majority.

I do think it's very easy to make sense of the results of this election as how voters in a given district vote in the knowledge that they are effectively gaining or losing representation. Can't blame Republicans for fighting back. Glad to see them lose. Hope to God they see reason.

One thing I’ll add here: for all the issues of the Democratic Party I think people should realize how far we’ve come over the past 20 years on this stuff. The idea of democrats retaliating against the 2003 Texas redistricting was unfathomable.
The "we need bipartisanship!" thing originally began not as a call for liberals to work with conservatives but for liberal northern Republicans and liberal northern Democrats to work together to advance liberal policies in an era where conservative Dixiecrats dominated commitee chairmanships etc.

The Justice Dept’s theory of the case— that the group that single-handedly disassembled the Ku Klux Klan defrauded its donors by concealing that it was using paid informant to do that work and more— has about as much merit as the now-dismissed charges against Jim Comey.
The SPLC has long monitored and exposed white nationalist and Christian nationalist hate groups, so it makes sense that an administration staffed by many people sympathetic to one or both of those movements would use the DOJ to go after them.
