Also the women’s cooperative guild deserves much more love and study. Working class women and their organisations ignored, tale as old as time. Anyway, read these

Every person, particularly influencers and their ilk promoting trad-wife lifestyle or pining for some imagined past should be forced to read these cover to cover. The reality was often bleak and tragic, why fuck would anyone rational choose that other than oppression and misogyny? ….

This goofball is a source of endless joy to me. My children are living it up at Coachella and in London, and I’m super happy for them, but give me a dog on a sunny day in Somerset and that’s all I need.

’Punk & Disorderly’ by Karen Fournier is excellent, but didn’t expect it to quite resonate this scarily: Israel, US conflict with oil in Middle East Arab countries, Britain abstains but is caught in extreme economic decline that is ongoing. rhymes, etc. Music always political one way or the other

Just a friendly reminder that your desire to have a bookshelf with a rolling ladder is valid.

Don’t allow anyone to disrespect you by telling you otherwise.

OpenAI Backs Bill That Would Limit Liability for AI-Enabled Mass Deaths or Financial Disasters The ChatGPT-maker testified in favor of an Illinois bill that would limit when AI labs can be held liable—even in cases where their products cause “critical harm.”

OpenAI wants to be off the hook if its frontier AI models go rogue and cause 100+ deaths or more than $1 billion in financial damages. from @mzeff.bsky.social

As an Illinois resident, I say hell no.

"OpenAI is throwing its support behind an Illinois state bill that would shield AI labs from liability in cases where AI models are used to cause serious societal harms."

Yeah I have never been more sure something was up with the quality of the underlying assets of private credit. This is as close to a “my shirt that says we’re nothing like the banks during the great financial crisis” tweet as we’ve had yet

it's ridiculous that this "London has fallen" bullshit has been allowed to fester for so long.
The best time to deal with this was a few years ago, and the second best time is now

They were just skating/playing basketball on the courts. Typical teenage stuff. Obs awful if later they got into mischief - terrible for any affected - but if it happened then a small handful. Just like with football supporters, you’ll always get a few. point is, calling these kids crazed = agenda

There was a heavy police presence on the Common yesterday, but no ‘crazed’ teenagers. Just some youngsters hanging out. The dog whistling of the Mail, wowzers. It may have kicked off later that evening, but between 2-7pm it was peaceful.

A U.K. spin-off of SNL premiered this past weekend, with guest host Tina Fey liberated to use curse words.

“Why do a UK version of SNL?” Fey said during her monologue. “Well, like so many large-scale American operations these days, no one really knows why.” https://wapo.st/4rO8b2g

Honestly felt both refreshing & like this is what British people do best. Something missing in UK comedy, restored.

Jamie Dornan episode phenomenal, loved Tina Fey in 1st one.

Love the Irish grandpa sketch.

Brave, & validated to the comedians & writers taking on the pessimism.

Quakers- some of the fairest, kind, & progressive people in history fighting for what is right - arrested by the police for imagined thought crime. Criminalising the hope for an equitable world & non-conformity.

And not a blip from the cancel culture screechers. Transparent bad faith.

As technologies mine our attention, we must look to artists | Aeon Videos If technology threatens to flatten our humanity, artists can deepen it. Hear how, from a flamenco musician and a juggler

To the philosopher Martin Heidegger, technology shapes how we see the world. This excerpt from the documentary ‘Being in the World’ explores Heidegger’s ideas on technology and humanity by speaking with philosophers and artists who can provide a new way of seeing

Why Europe keeps blaming others for its own problems - Transforming Society Emmy Eklundh, author of 'Europe’s Populist Condition', suggests that mainstream European parties are increasingly adopting populist-right policies, showing the divide between “mainstream” and “populist” politics is largely illusory.

"So, the question remains, why are #Centrist parties still so committed to moving to the right, when this is a crowded electoral space and unlikely to produce any major gains in the #Polls?"

School book banning escalates in the UK as Greater Manchester secondary school censors scores of books - Index on Censorship A school librarian faced a disciplinary hearing and scores of books were removed from her school library after she stocked Laura Bates’ Men Who Hate Women

This is utterly jaw-dropping.

A school that bans Atwood, Zadie Smith, Terry effing Pratchett and *literal George Orwell* is actively harming its pupils.

the sobering detail here is that the Danes were prepared to fight while knowing exactly how that would likely end for them

So true. Just read the excellent 'Social Murder: Austerity and Life Expectancy in the UK' by David Walsh and Gerry McCartney which details many of these harms.

So unnecessary, many sensible people were disgusted back in 2010 when the whole 'big society' and austerity were being pushed.
