on my commute home i saw the aftermath of a car crashing into an ebiker. very clearly the car turned into the bike and the rider was likely maimed or killed. it makes me sick to my stomach that after 100 years of this shit society still treats daily loss of life like the cost of doing business.

Driving a car gives you metal thoughts. It makes you feel invulnerable. It makes you feel apart from and better than pedestrians. It saps your patience. Driving a car is bad for your soul.

I see people being constantly killed and maimed by cars in my city and then commentators have reactions like this.

It’s what passes as being reasonable in a car centric society.

The underlying premise of all these quote tweets is that places that put more of the burden of safety on drivers works.

There are no good or decent drivers. Every driver should know they wield a world-ending device and if that scares them, they should find another way to get around. One million dead per year because drivers can't let go of the steering wheel while careening us to climate oblivion.

Chart showing lives lost on Seattle's streets at 27. 18 people walking were killed.

Along with a scooter crash that occurred in Belltown last year, where a rider suffered an aneurism at the time of their crash that could have been the result of that crash, SDOT has revised the total number of lives lost on Seattle's streets in 2025 to 27.

18 of those people were pedestrians.

The mundane, everyday errands people were walking around doing right before a driver kills them are so relatable to New Yorkers. Any moment could be your last, thanks to a culture of reckless driving where pedestrians are obstacles hindering drivers’ ability to speed.

Everytime I enter the street, I make eye contact with approaching drivers, spit on the ground, and show them the big rock in my hand as I waltz into the crosswalk

😂 Critical Mass Seattle is so anarchic and community first that tonight while we were delayed starting for a mechanical issue the leaders were working, someone just decided it was time to go and the mass left the start with them. We’ll take it! ❤️

Last year, New Orleans paid a quarter of a million american dollars for easily bypassed vehicle barriers like these before an attack injured 57 and killed 14.

Hope you come up with something better for Seattle

The International Energy Agency is calling for people to cut oil demand by working from home more, flying less and driving slower, as the Iran war rocks global energy markets.
The agency says those measures, alongside steps such as sharing cars and switching to electric cookers, are needed to help with the
"largest supply disruption in the history of the oil market", which has pushed the price of a barrel of oil above $100.

We’re back. Two weeks ago, a driver killed a 2 year-old child at 4th and Channel—the third pedestrian fatality of 2026. Since then, all SFMTA has done was repaint the existing crosswalks for a photo op. So the community took matters into our own hands.
