Remember, Democrats have repeatedly advanced measures to ban partisan gerrymandering and Republicans have voted against them time after time.

This is the game Republicans wanted to play. OK, then.

Every sign has a story.

Unionized ProPublica staff are on strike over AI, layoffs, and wages A key issue is protections against layoffs from AI

New: 150 unionized ProPublica workers are on strike TODAY over AI, layoff protections, wages, and more.

They're asking readers to not visit ProPublica or engage with content on other platforms. It's the first work stoppage of its kind at the newsroom.

One of my all time favorites!

Hard to believe that The Mark of Zorro, in which he plays one of the hottest characters I’ve ever seen, was only a few years earlier (1940 release).

“You should tell people discussing the show that you’re not watching it, and why, and you should let yourself openly cringe at your sister-in-law’s Harry Potter tote bag, and you should bring up unprompted that the onslaught of legislation against trans people makes you sad and angry”

Time loops! Also anything that forces people to question the nature of their own reality.

I think this really illustrates that a lot of dull people who complain about "politics" in stories, simply do not know what politics are. including, sometimes, the authors of those stories.

Oh dear, I’m so sorry to hear that. Thanks for sharing.

Quote this with your ao3 fic with the most kudos:

No surprise, it’s a popular pairing (Beau/Yasha) and a popular trope (only one bed).

I did finish VII, although I also needed to find another copy because disc 3 was badly scratched. I’ve idly thought about trying the new remake but have yet to be truly motivated. If you ever give X-2 or XII a shot I’d love your thoughts!

I also never really connected with VII. I liked VIII somewhat better, but it’s not top tier for me (that’s IX, X, X-2, and XII). For various reasons I’ve started VI twice and never finished it (I know, bad fan).

I also took Greyhound between Philly and CA five times—three times eastbound, two times westbound. I do not recommend it, especially not in winter.

Going home from Philadelphia to Santa Rosa CA for Winter Break my first year of college. Someone needed a car driven cross-country, so a classmate and I made the drive without an overnight stop.

Yes, agreed. Especially with Charlie Jane’s point that the Buffy reboot was much more promising. I’m sad that it’s not going forward.

I'm constantly trying (/failing) to get this point across.

If you're a trained expert in a field, then it may be worthwhile to question the scientific consensus of your peers.

If you're not, the scientific consensus is absolutely the best you can do and it's arbitrary foolishness to disregard it.

Oh, and Civ 6. Without a doubt.

Dragon Age Origins for sure (especially if DA:A counts as part of DA:O), probably also Dragon Age 2, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Final Fantasy X and X-2 are also included.

I don’t know about “favorite” but I’ve long had a soft spot for “This Song's Just) Six Words Long”, the Weird Al parody of “Got My Mind Set On You” by George Harrison.

There's a point, well below a billion dollars, where the amount of money you have lets you rid yourself of anyone who can be a check on your worst impulses, and replace them with people who tell you those worst impulses are somehow valorous. Rare is the billionaire with someone to tell them "no."

"actually his stuff was very Derivative and not Original" like, you don't have to do this. it is good for us all to sit with the cognitive dissonance that a very bad person can make very good art. it is good for us to work through the moral ramifications of that.

"wait now you want to get rid of ALL the abusive & monstrous people???" Yes. Yes we do. There are more good people than bad in every industry, whole scads of people who'd never in their wildest dreams think of being systematically horrible & ask to be rewarded for it. Wild but true!

The people who are saying shit like "well it's either this or the borders are totally open" are doing their best to convince America that we should have completely open borders.

I know respectability politics are bullshit, I know perfect victim narratives are toxic and harmful, but it really is so striking to me that they’re not only murdering white people, THESE are the white people they’re murdering

On film, in the midst of trying to help people
