Oh, sweet, my hot water system crapped itself. Let the haggling begin, I guess.

I'm going to start low with $32, a loose Japanese copy of Street Fighter 2 for the Super Famicom, and an old stick of DDR3 RAM.

The RAM will only come to the table if things get desperate.

Totally agree. I prefer seeing goofy names like this in code rather than some single-character abstract as all hell names.

I should still probably consider investing in a dictionary, though hahahahaha.

An image of a line of code with a completely made up word.

An image of a line of code with a completely made up word.

Sifting through some of my old code, I stumbled on yet another example of my brilliant naming conventions.

Truly a chef's kiss moment... Ugh, I wish I could say I've gotten better.

That's exactly right!

We are in the business of trying to catch lightning in a bottle. Might as well just have fun while doing it.

Oh no, I just caught myself thinking about what kind of game I could build that would sell.

I thought I was struggling with fun ideas, but it turns out the need to survive just poisoned the creativity well.

Repeat after me, folks: don't try and make games with money as the end goal.

Quick reminder to all the game devs out there beating themselves up.

Stop it.

You are creating something from nothing, and there's a good chance you are doing it alone.

Stop and think how crazy that sounds, and cut yourselves some slack.

"BUG!" yelled Jak.

"There's a bug in the most important part of the game, the movement controller!" exclaimed Jak.

"This is why I need to be involved in all parts, to avoid this happening!" explained Jak.

This is how Jak figured out his xbox controller was broken.

Did I miss the big fight?

My money was on the Easter Bunny because the guy with the beard just doesn't seem to want it as much.

This is me taking a break.

When the pressure of making something you can sell gets to you, there is nothing better than a pure mess around project.

Something with no deadlines or any real purpose.

Remember #gamedev is fun, and if you forget it, get yourself a mess around project.

"I've found a publisher!" exclaimed Jak.

"They said the game is worth $500K, but they then said it's actually worth a million when I explained it to them!" cheered Jak.

This was the 4th time Jak nearly got scammed by a random pretending to be a publisher.

I never felt more vindicated than making the completely obvious discovery years ago that Donkey Kong Country 2 looked better to me as a kid not because of rose-tinted goggles but because I was playing it on a tiny CRT.

Makes you wonder if there will ever be a situation like that again.

Oh, see now that has cleared my blues a bit. My favourite critters, right there!

Yeah, yeah, grab life by the horns.

It's all well and good in theory, but what happens when you grab it but have no idea what direction to point it in?

Seriously, I've got this angry beast, and, ummmmmm, yeah, it's rampaging in every direction.

Send help!

Holy crap, I just realised that in my current situation, if I wanted to listen to a CD, the easiest way for me would be to use my PS1.

I usually find the pieces that are going to make the game so complex, bust them out, and try and build them separately.

It's sometimes hard to break down a game to its core components, but it really does help.

"Crunch time is bad," said Jak.

"Our indie studio doesn't believe in it," said Jak.

Jak decided to sign up for an event to show off his game.

When is it asked everyone.

"In 3 weeks' time" said Jak.

The team was officially in crunch time.

Stay tuned for more tales of Jak.

The brain truly is a strange beast. One moment we are yelling at it to stop saying we suck at everything, and the next we are thanking it and apologising for not listening to it.

You know, I'm pretty mean to my brain, but damn, sometimes I should listen to it.

It has been protesting doing anything for weeks now because it knew I was just burying a piece of tech debt.

I wrote this code to fix my issue, and the brain is back in action.

Thanks, brain, truthfully.

Oh, that unity input system. It has a million ways to implement it, yet they all seem to be missing basic features.

Yes, I'm still pissed about it not having an out of the box way to notify you what kind of controller is being used.

Oh yeah, that's risky behaviour and misuse of my boy.

The most honest data type in my opinion has to be the nullable bool.

It returns "yes," "no," and "I don't know; I've got nothing."

It's humanity in a data type.

Great news everyone! Nvidia has noticed devs pushing back on AI slop and has decided to force it into games with DLSS5!

What a time to be alive....

So where were you guys when I did? hahahahaha

It's probably that feeling you get when you play a game and can tell that the people who worked on it truly cared about it.

I don't know what that's called, but it would definitely tip the scales into greatness.

Bad Gameplay + Great Visuals = Crap Game.

Great Gameplay + Bad Visuals = Good Game.

Great Gameplay + Great Visuals = Good Game.

Do we agree #gamedev folks?

Firstly, never think your problems are not valid.

Secondly, life has a fantastic way of getting in the way of things, but what it doesn't know is that we all have the power in us to beat it down.

Keep that head up, and you'll have life running away crying before you know it.

You got this.

53 days since I last used blender. I can't remember a damned thing.

Seriously, if you are struggling with something, try and use it frequently enough to load it into that semi-permanent portion of your memory.

Now excuse me while I scream at a cube.
