A little while ago, my parents' cat Bridget went missing. As the weeks dragged on, they became extremely worried. My dad devised a way to distract himself: he began to paint Bridget's adventures, imagining her travelling through time and popping up in some of art and music's most iconic scenes.

Often people who have spent their lives caring for others doing physical labour they can no longer do. These aren't issues caused by people not taking responsibility. People take responsibility if there is a way. In a civilised society we support people to get back to where they can contribute.

I remember when it was rare to see homeless people on our streets. Employment services and the poverty industry do nothing to help the situation. The free market is delighted to have a certain number of unemployed to counter inflation, often that are women and men 10 or less years from retirement.

Free markets like intalling state funded nuclear for billions, or bailing out corporations when the market fails? Focusing on personal responsibility doesn't negate taking care of people excluded from the free market.
