Also note that I said that I agree to a certain extent about the addiction so I don’t disagree about the operant conditioning. I just think the post does not convey the message successfully, at least to me.

All this is up to interpretation.. But even if you are right, I still don’t like the metaphor as the author could then focus on the operant conditioning and not mention gambling, as the first thing that people think is randomness when they hear gambling.

Maybe you are right. But I still dont like the slot machine metaphor; chances there are really low, while with Claude Code I consistently achieve what I want with a good strategy.

Note that, I agree about the addiction to a certain extent. I just didn’t like the gambling metaphor.

I could indeed draw some parallels but there are fundamental differences:

- Gambling is often associated with drinking. I don't want to drink when I use Claude Code.
- After gambling (+drinking), people feel remorse + low self-esteem. Claude Code makes me super productive + confident.

- I feel that Claude Code is boosting my attention (bsky.app/profile/ekaz...). Not sure about gambling.
- With gambling you can lose a lot of money. With Claude Code it is constantly 100$ per month, never more.
- Claude Code is funded by my boss. I don't think my boss would fund my gamble.
