Substack is a nice idea if you already have a job
A whole lotta shakin going on
on the left the musical manuscript of Sumer is icumen in (British Library) and on the right soft toy cat with pink and white stripes, the TV character Bagpuss
What connects 70s horror The Wicker Man and kids TV classic Bagpuss?
Well, both feature ‘Sumer is icumen in’ one of the earliest pieces of English music. The 750-year-old manuscript is at Reading Museum until 9 May, on loan from the British Library.

People on AI Twitter need to understand that proof-of-concept is not the same thing as game-changer

Vibing snipe
I thought it was Daft Punk
Just get rid of the word “digital”
It’s my favourite
We’re watching it in real time right now
24 hour theory people
Or even better, two girls (Quatre Aventures de Reinette et Mirabelle)
Damn I don’t arrive until May 20 😨
I would comment but
I’m thinking of starting a group called Only in England for messages like this
That’s a lot of Foucaldians losing their jobs
He should know
and a rollicking good watch it was too 😉
A simple question for ElevenLabs: why tf would I want to clone my OWN voice? Because that seems to be pretty much the only thing you'll allow me to do.
“Psychogeography” is basically just a bunch of white guys wandering around London and Paris and writing books about it

Serres would undoubtedly endorse the view that he is an intellectual parasite, but add that we all are. I find him pretty much unreadable, but some are braver than I - Stephen Brown’s intro to the parasite is about as clear as it gets. I’ve thought many times of pitching a book on parasitic media
I initially read “drive” as “drivel” 😉
I think “libidinal” is one of the most over-used terms in the theoretical arsenal. Easy to make Lyotard the (Girardian) scapegoat, of course, but I think Deleuze and Guattari are mostly to blame for subsequent theoretical orthodoxies. I’m more interested in Michel Serres’s theory of the parasite
I know… but as you know funny words can often lead to interesting new conversations. Memetic desire seems productive as a way of tweaking Girard’s overly theological framework.
By “libido” here do you mean just desire or something more specific and distinct from desire? Why not Girard’s “mimetic desire”?
Ah okay I get what you mean now. This is an interesting concept, a kind of self-generating distributed libido. Beatlemania? Kpop?
Examples?
