Trump’s Ukraine policy is based on fabricated numbers ($350bn). His Russia policy is based on fabricated numbers (majority support for Russia in occupied territory). Why are we surprised that his trade policy is also based on fabricated numbers?
What are the effects of macroeconomic #uncertainty on consumers&firms?
In short, randomized controlled trials show that macroeconomic uncertainty inhibits econ activity
Economic Policy Uncertainty index is now higher than it was during COVID.
This means a higher prob of a recession

I think this shows unequivocally that he’s not reading his intelligence briefings. This is a bizarre description of the Kursk situation.

Where is the outrage in America about this shameful betrayal by Trump? Where are the Senators and Members of Congress who cheered Zelensky when he addressed them, but are now too afraid of Trump to say a word in defence of Ukraine?
Jeff Sachs gave a speech at the EU parliament. Among many crazy things in the speech: "So I’m giving [Estonia] advice, do not stand there, Estonia, and say we want to break up Russia, are you kidding?" That is, Estonia must return to Mother Russia.
Unhinged...

This would be a cruel and senseless act. Utter shame
Trump and Vance in particular were always looking to suspend military aid to Ukraine. Makes the White House confrontation look even more like a set up
I guess things were actually looking quite good for the US as a superpower. Russia was stuck in an unwinnable war + really bad economy, China's growth had slowed down, and Iran's regime looked fragile after the protests. Oh well, then Trump came along, and now the American century seems to be over.
Da
This will be remembered as the day when America's honor took a deep dive...
And meanwhile #Ukraine will keep fighting for all of us who believe in freedom, justice and democracy

“This War [Russian invasion] is far more important to Europe than it is to us,” Trump wrote. “We have a big, beautiful Ocean as separation.”
A message to 🇵🇱, Baltics, 🇵🇱, 🇸🇪, 🇩🇪 & the rest of EUR? "Don't count on the US for help if things go bad. There is a big, beautiful Ocean."

OMFG, these people just learn nothing.
EU debates return to Russian gas as part of Ukraine peace deal on.ft.com/4hlAUXR
I am ecstatic that my paper “Sinking ships: liquidity constraints and return predictability in recessions” is now in press at the Journal of Monetary Economics! 🥳 If you are interested in financial frictions, illiquidity, and asymmetric amplification, you can find it here: doi.org/10.1016/j.jm...
This is a thread about remaking the tech sector.
The true shock in this war came from Ukraine itself - its people, defying scripts written in Moscow and Washington
Yet, the old ways of thinking persist. Speaking in Berlin this week, I was struck by how much of the debate revolved around Trump imposing a top-down solution 1/
Ms. Yellen described the loan as one of the most important things that she had been involved with during her time in the job.
Yellen: "... #Russia increasingly bear the costs of its illegal war, instead of taxpayers in our coalition.”

BTW, it's Dr. Yellen.

Lavrov: we didn’t attack Ukraine. It is Ukraine and the U.S. who attacked us
Translation: War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is Strength 1/
Lavrov, through Tucker Carlson, delivers a sharp, manipulative pitch: Russia is ready to deal directly with Europe, bypassing the U.S.
He tells Europeans they shouldn’t suffer for America’s fight but focus on their own security and prosperity with Russia He said:
