Shutting down medical research — not just within NIH, but everywhere that’s funded by NIH — will have long-term effects on medicine & short-term effects on state, higher education & hospital budgets. This affects all of us, not just researchers.
In addition to the NIH halt, this order aims to create (among other things) a list of all federally funded grants that involve DEIA "under whatever name they appear". They're coming for research involving health equity, social determinants of health, centering marginalized populations, etc.
