has anyone written anything as a sort of post-mortem on why you don't really see FATE anymore? it's fascinating to see how much more lively the PbtA sphere is than this other movement from right around the same time

Buy Nova Carol Nathan a Coffee Become a supporter of Nova Carol Nathan today!

Fuck. Just heard back from Valve support about my Steam Deck and fixing it will be *way* more expensive than I expected (estimated nearly $200). Naturally I do not have this money, especially not after LVFC. If anyone's willing to help, I'd be eternally grateful.

There's a few other things: Dog Tags that gain abilities which only work when you die and pass the dog tag onto another PC, or seeing if outside factions crash into your mission via Intrusions.

Together they add really useful overarching structure to FIST, and work just as well off-Europa too!

There's also rules for NPC squads, both as ways of grouping enemy mooks into more dangerous groups as well as giving your PCs bigger batches of underlings to command. They can even serve as sources of replacement PCs in an ongoing game!

The new FIST rules alone look very fun - Assets are an alternative resource to XP (a representation of scavenged goods, contacts, intel, favors, and so on) that can be cashed in for increasingly cool toys...

...Like the new and expanded base upgrades! Six categories with 6 cool options each.

I wish I wasn't just starting up a very different campaign - I might still use the tools here to make a sample sector, to see what kind of sandboxes they produce, but GOD do I wish I could immediately start running a game of it.

Really excited for the full release later in the year!

There's this idea of the different types of Energies that swirl around the moon - the unnatural cold, the holy light of Jupiter, psychic emanations from the sea under the ice, spacetime ripples from the destruction of the orbital FTL station...
They're dangerous but can be leveraged, too. Very fun.

Beyond being a really evocative setting in its own right (given how feverishly people would Post in it), I think it helps with one of my biggest personal hurdles with FIST, which is setting up and managing a campaign - the tools and procedures do a lot to provide a nice, actionable runway!

What I love about it is how open-ended and flexible it is - you're given various FIST rules widgets (usable here and elsewhere), a broad outline of the state of the moon and its big factions, but past that you're given a big toybox to create your own little sandbox region (called a sector).

War-Torn Ice Moon, the FIST supplement that spawned the Europa Ice War posting last year, is now available in a text draft form to Kickstarter backers.

It might already be one of my new favorite TTRPG books in general - it begs to be played!

Can't wait for the art and final layout!

I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.

Had a lovely time interviewing the very sharp @olddog.games about his incredible sequel to Blades in the Dark for @springmagca.bsky.social. Blades ‘68 is both radical and extremely rad—it’s just what a work of art should be.

the human made icon

the human made icon

I want to be a better steward for the Human Made icon. If you have any ideas on how I can get the word out for it more please let me know. Do you think game retailers would be interested in stickers they could pass out? folks interested in pins? What can I do to support you using this icon? a zine?

A splash image for "Mooncroft Manor." Two figures huddle in a dark space full of antique objects. One holds up a flame for them to see by; the other embraces their companion—but holds a knife behind their back, ready to betray them. Thank you! Some of these are preexisting groups in the wider setting mythos (in some cases not even devised by me originally), others are debuting in this campaign.

The main culture here has an Iberian (Spanish/Arabic) cultural base, and the 2nd biggest are French Space Capitalists, among others.

Excuse you, it's 35 - 48 if you also count the citizenry of the 13 city districts.

You have more in common with the people of Iran than you do with anyone in this administration, any member of the technocracy, anyone who is profiting from this war, or any billionaire. When you see Iranians forming human chains outside key infrastructure sites, you should feel a sense of kinship.

Official Launch Trailer for The House of Hikmah | Arrives April 8th, 2026 YouTube video by Lunacy Studios

I've wished for Arab-made games about Arab mythology for so long, and despite assisting on the project I still can't believe there's one swinging for the fences this hard. House of Hikmah is something very needed in a time where the world would rather erase us.

“If you use <insert grammatical pet peeve here> then I know your writing was done by AI.”

Cool, and if you use AI paranoia to try and shame a writing style you don’t like, then I know you’re a bit of a cunt.

Marathon Doesn't Work On Linux Bungie blocking Marathon on Linux is a detriment to both the series' history and the growing number of Linux users.

I am jumping on the bandwagon and writing a blog post about Marathon. Except instead this is a post about gaming on the Linux ecosystem and how game developers are hurting themselves by blocking Linux users, because I can't play Marathon on my computer.
