Our #educhi2025 papers are available now! Also, the conference has just started (today is the pedagogy workshop educhi2025.educhi.org). I'm excited about my paper, which is about using amoeba drawings to encourage sketching and prototyping within ambiguous problem spaces dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/...

Great to be at #dis2025! My work as a workshops co-chair is done, but looking forward to presenting a new method “Anti-Heroes” created with friend and collaborator, Shruthi Chivukula, on Wednesday. #ethics #ethicaldeliberation

After receiving a standing ovation, she is answering Q&A: her comments are that we need to think of AI as a friend - rather than a tool. She sees AI as a child - and we need to be kind to nurture it as it grows. #chi2025
With this perspective - she has he best part of 5000 people gripped as she reflects on what AI will do for people in this culture as they approach 100 years old. #chi2025
Masako Wakamiya's keynote is a beautiful love letter to technology appropriation. Loved her stories about turning "Office" into a playground #chi2025

Ritika Gairola posing in front of her poster at CHI
@uxp2lab.bsky.social’s Ritika Gairola rocking her first #chi2025 poster on public policy and HCI! She attracted a crowd quickly and is rocking it 🎉. Read more here: dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/...
Presentation including discussion points relating to normalizing harm and grooming at a platform scale.
Fabulous talk on Roblox harms by Yubo Kou! Really important findings to consider risks at the platform level. #chi2025 dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/...
I made a site to show all the trans/queer content at #CHI2025. There are 13 papers on Monday alone! padlet.com/haimson/chi
Wise words on surviving a large conference like #chi2025. Over 5000 attendees this year! 🤯
Tilar and Ritika smiling in their seats as they wait for the start of the opening plenary.
Excited to welcome @uxp2lab.bsky.social Ritika Gairola and @c-cilab.bsky.social Tilar DeVine to their first #chi2025 with @altoombs.bsky.social!

On the way to #chi2025 with @altoombs.bsky.social! Our first time to Japan 🇯🇵 🎉
We are excited to run a SIG at #chi2025 with a focus on #darkpatterns, building on our previous organizational efforts. Consider joining us to chat about regulation, cross-cultural perspectives, and more with a simply delightful organizing team. 🎉
Screenshot of colin’s google scholar profile, showing the paper “The dark (patterns) side of UX design” with 1000 citations.
It’s quite surreal to see my 2018 paper on #darkpatterns reach 1000 citations. We initially only hoped to galvanize local support among designers and HCI scholars, but I’m super proud of the impact this work has had on law, regulation, and ethics! 🎉 @uxp2lab.bsky.social
Cis folks need to read this powerful essay by @haimson.bsky.social to better understand what trans people in the US are going through right now (and as Oliver points out, issues are compounded for trans PoC, immigrants, students, etc.). Travel is just the tip of the iceberg time.com/7272324/tran...
For those who will be at #CHI2025, hope you can join us for the CHI Queers Meetup! It will be on Monday 4/28 at a space near the conference. RSVP: tinyurl.com/chiqueers
Looking for more online groups where people genuinely connect. We’re expanding our study on subtle acts of support in online communities and are looking for new groups to observe. If you're part of such a group or you moderate one, please consider joining our study!

We received quite lengthy reviews for DIS this year, but I agree there needs to be more consistent quality in reviewing. It would also be great if PCS helped SCs monitor and benchmark this kind of thing, too.
Thank you!! The tech bros could definitely use it 😅
Colin is smiling, standing in a brightly lit living room holding a copy of Universal Methods of Ethical Design.
I'm excited to announce the official publication of our book, Universal Methods of Ethical Design with co-author Sai Shruthi Chivukula! We hope it inspires a new generation of designers in being more ethically aware and able to act.

Happy Pub Day to TRANS TECHNOLOGIES by @haimson.bsky.social from @mitpress.bsky.social
Dr. Haimson’s book is a fascinating deep dive into the world of trans technologies, i.e. technologies that address the unique needs and challenges faced by trans people.

Hurrah! Looking forward to hearing what you and your students think 🎉
Got my copy of "Universal Methods of Ethical Design" by Sai Shruthi Chivukula and Colin M. Gray in the mail and I'm excited to read it! I might be a little biased, though. @graydesign.bsky.social (I don't think Shruthi is on Bluesky) www.linkedin.com/posts/chivuk...
The Stonewall Inn and The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative are outraged and appalled by the recent removal of the word 'transgender' from the Stonewall National Monument page on the National Park Service website. This blatant act of erasure not only distorts the truth of our history, but it also dishonors the immense contributions of transgender individuals - especially transgender women of color - who were at the forefront of the Stonewall Riots and the broader fight for LGBTQ+ rights. The Stonewall Inn released a response to the National Parks Service removing the word transgender from the park outside of the Inn. A great reminder that we have to look after each other
