The image shows a brightly lit arched doorway opening into a dark room filled with glowing yellow and pink crystals. Holographic rings of ancient runes circle the tallest crystals flanking the doorway. The floor is mirror smooth, reflecting the entire scene back on the bottom half of the image. A lone figure stands in the doorway, barely reaching a quarter of its height. Over the image are the words, "A Brief History of LitRPG, A Fantasy-Faction Article," written in thin white text.

The book cover sits in the center of the image. The cover shows the title in a large cream-colored serif font on a navy-blue background that fills almost the entire space. Around the edges is a topographical map done in yellow-green butting up against waves of sky blue. Mixed in are magenta and orange curlicues and a few line drawings. The line draws are as follows: In the bottom third of the cover there is an orange suspension bridge reaching from edge to edge over the waves of sky blue. On the right-hand bank is a town with a yellow-green mountain behind it. The town has a yellow-green cathedral and three houses: one orange, one cream, and one magenta. There is also a pair of tickets (one orange, one yellow-green) and a humanoid cat person holding a dagger. The cat person has long orange hair and an orange tail. Their face is peach and they have a scar on their right cheek. They are wearing a yellow-green coat, and the dagger is cream with a yellow handle. The background of the image is a Victorian map of Europe.

The image shows the three books in the series. The first, A Gathering of Ravens, is in the center; the second, Twilight of the Gods, is on the left; and the third, The Doom of Odin, is on the right. Book one shows a raven flying through snow, but its dark feathers fade into an image of a city skyline with a peach sunset. Book two shows a howling wolf with a winter pine forest behind it, but its dark fur fades into another city, this time with a red-orange sunset. Book three shows a dragon's head. The city behind him is on fire and the red coloring reflects off its dark scales. The background of the image is a close up of frost fading from peach to blue. Above the books is written, "The Grimnir Saga" and below the books, "A Fantasy-Faction Series Review."

The cover sits in the center of the image. The cover shows the title done in sky blue, thin, straight letters stacked with one word on each line. The background of the cover is some type of spectrograph on a dark background, but shown on its side and blurred slightly. The lowest peaks are a deep red and fade into a subtle rainbow as they get higher. The background of the image is the same picture, sans words, but with the negative of the colors.

The book cover sits in the center of the image. The cover is done in a paper cut-out style. In the center is silhouette of a woman in a long dress facing right. She is flanked by gnarled trees with vibrant green leaves. In the tree canopy are two small golden dragons flying in the branches. Barely visible behind the woman is the faint outline of a manor house. The whole cover is framed by a turquoise blue Art Nouveau swirl design. The background of the image is full of verdant green leaves.

The book cover sits in the center of the image. The cover shows a fiery red and orange Chinese dragon flying through a deep blue night sky. Clouds billow in the background and magical sparks surround the dragon as it flies. Shooting past him are blue meteors and near the bottom of the cover red petals (feathers? scales?) flutter around its body. The background of the image is a starry night sky highlighted by a blue nebula.

Cover of the novel Shroud, depicting a yellow pod crashing on a dark alien moon.

I recently reread Shroud by @aptshadow.bsky.social. While he's known for stellar worldbuildingβ€”and this book is no exceptionβ€”the character work truly struck me on the second go. Taken together, the physical and psychological terrors draw the narrative as taut as a garrote. Just brilliant.
