I do still occasionally listen to the Today programme here in Iceland: and I still wish that Thought For The Day could at least be shuffled off to some digital pop up, to save me from having to reflexively whack the off button until the “intelligent speech, journalism” returns.

On sale all year round, as they ought to be. (Also we are just two months away from the nights getting longer again. ❤️)
"Rainy Road" - my oil painting
Will it touch on this extraordinary place, of which she was so fond (and whose owner became a friend)?

Advert for a show called "Half Man" on the BBC
Keep seeing this advertised and every single time my brain immediately adds "Half Biscuit" to the end
I’ll never forget watching The Wicker Man with my outer Hebridean mum. “I just don’t know where there got all that wicker from”
When Jean-Paul's oldest friend dies, he has to return to Paris - with dangerous consequences.
That's GET SARTRE, ITV 2 at 7.30pm.
It’s #recordstoreday. I’m off into town to see what treats Lucky Records and Smekkleysa have received. And while it’s maybe true that on at least some measures, CDs can replicate audio more accurately than vinyl, making a functional container for said discs remains entirely beyond the wit of man.
At least until they halved the power about a year ago, I could drive around in Reykjavík during winter listening easily to Radio 4 on long wave, magically just coming from the sky.
The coffee machine at work displays a message saying “perform the softener regeneration”: every time, for at least as long as I’ve worked here, which is three years. One must assume that whatever are the consequences of leaving the softener in an unregenerated state, they are not apocalyptic.
A picture of a sticker on my hotel mirror urging me to turn off the tap while brushing my teeth in order to save the best drinking water in the world
My Helsinki hotel’s unsubstantiated claim about Finnland having the best drinking water in the world is quite offensive to my cultural identity, which is entirely based on ICELAND having the best drinking water in the world, actually.
I mean, it seems unlikely that Ballard - of all people - had never been to The Barbican…
Okay, fine, but I’ve been driving cars powered by mashed up dinosaurs since I was seventeen and never once did I wear gloves while filling them.
image from inside Artemis II text: i need more men to understand that two men crying and hugging in space after one of them announced they were naming a moon crater after the other one's late wife is actually what peak masculinity looks like.
The film #Crime101 has many gorgeous shots of the titular freeway as it runs through downtown LA.
Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.
Dear Guardian.
Stop with the British exceptionalism.
They're immigrants.
Calling them expats just demonstrates your racism and ignorance.

Cloisonné pin similar to the NASA logo, but reads “NOT FLAT”, with “we checked” underneath l
NASA’s Earth photos from Artemis inspired me to put this on today… 🙂
Getting lots of positive comments on it as I run errands…
Just being on Bluesky makes me feel like more people read books than I ever thought possible, so thanks for making a librarian happy. #BookSky
Personal computers: Perhaps unwisely, the brain is subcontracting many of its core functions, creating a series of branch economics that may one day amalgamate and mount a management buy-out.
Ugh.
I’ve ditched #Audible for #Libro. - they seem to have the same vast library and monthly credit system, but every subscription and purchase supports a local (or otherwise) bookshop of YOUR choice. A very easy switch. Take a look!

When I am PM/President/Emperor/whatever, drivers of small cars will be compelled to tow a one-metre long trailer adorned with a flag, so that nobody ever again suffers the emotional rollercoaster of thinking a parking space is free, only to discover it is occupied by a Fiat 500. Day one.
Mix in the Glatritch
To have all of this, just a 20 minute drive from the capital area, still blows my mind. We are so lucky to live in #Iceland.
Of course, here at home in Iceland, Eurovision is being sat out this year. Over in the UK though, the entry is the love child of Howard Jones and Delia Derbyshire, imbued with a touch of the Stockhausen-meets-ABBA vibe that OMD once said they wanted to shoot for. It’s all completely bonkers.
Are the trains not running?
