Looks like Firefox finally supports playing HDR videos, at least in their latest Nightly builds. That's one less reason for me to open a Chrome based browser.

I gave a quite in depth interview about the state of HDR in the games industry with wccftech.
If you are an HDR gamer, or work with rendering or art, give it a read, hopefully thereβs something useful in there!
I assume we'll be able to turn on HDR support even in stable Firefox through config flags once the underlying code reaches beta and release versions, but it won't be enabled by default for a while I imagine.
So it seems like Firefox is finally getting close to adding HDR support for videos on Windows. Right now they're going to review it for issues, but it should come to FF Nightly after that.
It'll probably take a few months after that to reach stable builds.

Grand Theft Auto 4 with Path Tracing - what a time to be alive! How did one of the most notoriously "bad" PC ports get to this point in 2025? How did modder xoxor4d get RTX Remix to work with GTA 4? Does GTA 4 on PC deserve its frankly terrible reputation? Find out in this vid!

Love these new rocks πͺ¨β₯οΈ #Exanima
Don't mind the dead guy on the right
It's crazy that YouTube allows you to live stream in 4K HDR instantly, but an uploaded HDR video will take days to process before actually showing up as HDR for viewers.
I really think 90% of Internet connections should have 0 KB/s upload rate
HERE'S YA FIRST LOOK AT FALLEN ACES: EPISODE 2, BOSS! π€
Swords can get lodged inside tiny holes and prevent you from swinging them in #Exanima π€―. This game never ceases to impress me. I fucking love it.

I wonder if the Switch 2 using a Mini-LED panel. HDR in portable mode isn't going to be that great otherwise.
The Exanima Hellmode video is finally out on YouTube, and in glorious 4K 60fps HDR to boot. Just a chill playthrough, no challenges or anything like that.

It has officially been 3 whole days since upload and the Exanima vid's HDR version hasn't processed yet π
Well, the Exanima vid is uploaded and the SDR version is processed, but who knows how long YouTube will take to process the HDR version of a 1 hour 21 minute video that's 241 GB large.
YouTube's recommended upload bitrate is imo way too low, especially in this case.
Uploading Exanima footage at that bitrate results in an awfully blocky and compressed image as soon as there's any movement.
The image quality improvement from a much higher bitrate is MASSIVE.
Currently uploading ~240 GB of Exanima footage to YouTube π―. This game eats bitrate like it's nothing.
According to my testing, YouTube really likes these crazy high bitrates for Exanima footage in particular, probably because of all the fast fullscreen motion + a lot of fine detail.
Importing the remuxed video seems to have fixed it for me.
Basically, that mkvmerge argument sets the video's framerate to exactly 60 fps instead of the fractional framerate captured by OBS.
It seems like Resolve doesn't like framerates that aren't exactly 60 fps, just like OBS.
I learned that DaVinci Resolve can also induce interval stutter just like OBS, so even with fractional framerate recording, importing that video to DaVinci Resolve will cause the stutter randomly.
I could fix this by using mkvmerge on the video and passing the argument "--default-duration 0:60p".
Decided to record some Exanima Hellmode gameplay, in 4K HDR as usual.
It's a long video, so YouTube will take its sweet time processing the HDR version.
It's still crazy to me that I can record and play this game at 4K with *supersampling* on my RTX 4060, without breaking a sweat.
It's kind of complex to type out here, but I could do it successfully for 59.999725, for example. It came out to be 654537/10909 with a remainder of .000025.
Basically, I ended up with 11,000 after multiplying by 1000, 2000, etc until I got the biggest or smallest remainder, then worked backwards.
I get this too, and I think everyone does, to varying degrees. I could fix it in OBS using the fractional fps recording trick. My real refresh rate was 60.000285, so I now record at 210541/3509 fps.
Apparently capture cards with buffering enabled don't suffer from this issue.
Glad I didn't wait for GTA 5 Enhanced to come out to play the game again.
Performance is a dumpster fire, with horrendous frametimes, massive and frequent stutters and a ridiculous performance bug that tanks framerate when underwater.
GTA 5 'Legacy' runs like butter compared to that.
The GTA IV video is up. It's sort of a tribute to one of my favorite games of all time. #GTA #gaming youtu.be/SHfOsqh0Ang
Gonna try to make a GTA IV video in glorious 4K HDR, now that I got OBS to finally stop stuttering for good.
Did some more digging and found this video which explains a way to get rid of interval stutter in OBS, and I think the fractional fps recording did the trick for me.
It's way too much work for most people though. I really wish OBS (or ffmpeg) would fix this bug.

FYI: The kind of stutter I'm talking about manifests somewhat randomly in the recorded footage, even if the game was a perfect 60 fps the whole time.
It might take up to 15-20 minutes (or even longer) of recording for the stutter to show up.
Unfortunately, Mirillis Action! is paid software, and Nvidia Shadowplay messes up colors in HDR footage. π€·
Just realized after tearing much of my hair out that the severe stutter in my game recordings was caused by OBS, and it's an unavoidable bug no matter what you do.
Mirillis Action! and Nvidia Shadowplay both seem to be unaffected by this bug somehow. #OBS #gamerecording
Had the same issue with Microsoft Flight Simulator downloads. Some people suggested using Cloudflare WARP, and it improved speeds quite a bit for me. YMMV.
