I added 9 birds to my life list after one visit to Baylands Park on my trip to Mountain View for #SciFoo, including American Avocets and black-necked Stilts. No good photos of them bc no SLR but here's some pelicans.

The consequences of the attack on S&T is clear. NSF cuts are the most impactful bc we are the major funder for discovery science in the US. Social sciences are the most at risk and the most critical bc you can't advance anything without knowing people.

On a more positive note, the red-winged blackbirds are back at my favorite birding spot. I heard blue teals peeping and spotted a handsome Northern Pintail with some lovely lady friends.
