i've seen "it would really stick it to the devs if we left bsky" posts & no it wouldn't. they want this web site to be boring crypto idiots who cool their phones off in pools chatting with AI reply bots. instead they have to put up with us and that's deeply funny

picking apart word choices in a translated interview excerpt is always a fool’s errand but i went and checked and he really did say all that
hasan makes an obvious joke and has generally good politics and the media is like we need to drown him to prove he's not a witch. meanwhile tucker carlson goes live and talks about how demons are real and one tried to eat him in his sleep once and the media is like he seems trustworthy

I don’t “network,” I make friends. Other artists are not my competition, they’re my beloved peers and sources of inspiration. We all have the same goal; to share our art. I’m not gonna corporatize my human relationships with them. I am in my sandbox playing and I hope they join me.
dhuartson: Don't let anyone talk you out of spending $15 on a new hobby. That $50 will be the best $400 you ever spent.
This is not wrong.
I cannot stress enough how much we need community. We aren't all brand monoliths. Business connections are not a replacement for human connections.
We can just. Make friends. And we should.
Even if it does suck, the important thing is that it got the chance to let people decide it sucks instead of getting tossed in the garbage for a pittance on a billionaire's tax returns.

AHHHH
Us skittering across this uncertain world
It’s all part of this show we have to put on for self protection—lower yourself so the members of the dominant paradigm don’t feel threatened. Benches won’t fix that, but adjusting social expectations to make hateful people afraid to be like that would definitely help.
Postscript: the author talks about an unhoused woman sitting on the ground because people are kinder, and that hit me in the gut. As an ambulatory wheelchair user, I often have to carry myself in certain ways to avoid hostility, and those ways don’t usually affirm my dignity and right to space.
If you want to have nice things, you need to facilitate those nice things. For everybody. Lots of talk about community, but if you’re not counting queer, disabled, impoverished, unhoused, and yes, even unpleasant people, it’s not real.
In a VERY rare instance of begrudgingly giving the local cops credit, very frequently they would “I do not see it” when people called them because someone was sleeping. I asked one once how that happened, and he went “well, what are they supposed to do? Walk ten miles?”
That they choose to sleep in public rather than shelters.
Meanwhile, when patrons approached me in the library looking for shelters, the only options were full, miles away (great if you don’t have a car), oppressively Christian, or with strict intake times.
It’s impossible. On purpose.
The disappearance of places undesirables might rest in any capacity is a physical manifestation of the out of sight out of mind approach demanded by our current societal attitudes.
In Washington state where I was last, there’s this collective narrative that it’s unhoused people’s fault—
Of course, there’s overlap, particularly in the US, of unhoused populations and disabled populations, thereby heightening distaste for both.
In short, our society makes this “problem” for itself by failing to take care of its vulnerable and failing to challenge social prejudices.
The article mentions how we’re used as bludgeons, as ways to justify hostile architecture, but little about how we are shut out of public life, from Ugly Laws to the abandonment of COVID precautions.
Nondisabled people don’t like seeing us.
am i beautiful?
Trust me, disabled people feel this hostility acutely.
