A viral dog rescue from 2016 is now immortalized with a statue in Kazakhstan. When a dog fell into the Sayran reservoir, bystanders formed a human chain to pull him to safety. The statue is a reminder of the value of unity, solidarity and collective action. 14/10 for all

Chapter abstract: Geopolitical tensions between states can undermine the perceived legitimacy of international environmental institutions (IEIs), making it more difficult to find ambitious policy solutions, diffuse norms and rules, and enforce compliance to address joint environmental challenges. Despite heightened geopolitical tensions in the past two decades, however, citizensโ€™ perceptions of IEI legitimacy worldwide have remained reasonably stable at moderate levels. We argue that IEIs may gain legitimacy by helping states navigate geopolitical tensions through plurilateral cooperation within IEIs. The argument is supported by analysis of the patterns of legitimacy perceptions of the United Nations based on data from 88 countries from the European Values Study 5 and the World Values Survey 7 (2017โ€“2022), and case-based analysis of how plurilateralism may strengthen IEI legitimacy. Finally, the chapter sketches broader implications for the study of legitimacy and geopolitics in global environmental governance.

A few years ago (2022) I presented a paper where I developed 3 mechanisms of politicization of the European Union.

one of them is the usual bottom-up process: people get mobilized by what the EU does. I called it "reactive politicization". Countless examples of it in the literature.

Creative - we do some shovelling in Sweden but unpaid and only on our own property - seems not to be a good way to avoid budgeting properly for cold spells!

After a period of hyperglobalization, protectionist policies have become more entrenched over the past decadeโ€“policies that can benefit certain industries, but may curtail growth and international cooperation. The goal of the ERC-funded PROTECT is to understand public support for protectionism.

I'm thrilled to start the @erc.europa.eu project PROTECT in June 2026, which will explain why some citizens support protectionism although it is costly to them, and how local context changes protectionist attitudesโ€“in select countries worldwide ๐ŸŒ๐ŸŒ๐ŸŒŽ @stockholm-uni.bsky.social #polisky #AcademicSky

Further Back to the Future: Neo-Royalism, the Trump Administration, and the Emerging International System | International Organization | Cambridge Core Further Back to the Future: Neo-Royalism, the Trump Administration, and the Emerging International System - Volume 79 Issue S1

5/The reason it seems so confusing is this is not about a specific dispute. It is an attempt to shift the underling principles of the international system to what @segoddard.bsky.social call neo-royalism -- a system based not on rules but hyper elite interests.
