My colleagues look at me with blank expressions whenever I say, "The Chronicle of Higher Education is not a trade magazine for colleges & universities. It is a trade magazine for Higher Education managers." Even when they include faculty voices its always edited from the perspective of the managers

Fascinating how the narrative in the 90's was that nerds were the downtrodden good guys, and we come to the present, and a handful of male nerds are perhaps the most powerful and dangerous bullies in human history.

I'm in this boat. Was against Biden in the primary, viewed him as a stick in the mud. The level of miracles he was able to make happen turned me into more of an optimist about how government can work and how the Democrats can govern. Even now that has not changed.

This should be front page news. The longer the Iran war goes on, the Trump family gets richer. Corruption at the highest level of government.

SEN. @ossoff.senate.gov : “The faithless president depicts himself as Christ while he plunges the nation into wars of choice… Remember — While you pay more for everything, the First Family’s wealth is growing by billions. Because they’re crooks, and everybody knows it.”

“Homelessness is a social phenomenon and the number of homeless people depends on social conditions – not on the characteristics of individuals.…

We know exactly how to make homelessness decrease again. It is a matter of choice: do we want to do it?”

Ten years ago today, in April 2016, the Boston Globe printed a satirical front page imagining a future Trump administration. The page was called "alarmist," "hyperbolic," "dystopian." But we’ve put up with so much since then it now looks like . . . a slow Thursday?

While we’re holding people accountable for alleged sexual crimes, let’s start with the pedo in chief.

🧐 Right wingers are furious this week that Orban is out. That’s because their favorite grift is about to run out. Turns out CPAC was paid for by Hungarian taxpayers and it’s about to get cut. @CaolanReports

Effective 2025 federal tax rates paid by these corporations:

Alphabet: 8.01%
AT&T: 4.6%
Meta: 3.57%
General Motors: 3.09%
Amazon: 1.37%
Exxon Mobil: 1.31%
Disney: -1.57%
CVS Health: -3.88%

Income tax rate paid by the typical American: 14.5%

This is what a rigged system looks like.

I don’t think we talk nearly enough about the fact that corporations like Amazon, don’t pay a single cent to maintain the roads they use, the transportation system they use, the courts they use, they pay nothing for the infrastructure that is absolutely critical to their business.

Just a thought: How about we stop shaming the poor for buying things that may not be essential, and start shaming the rich for making a profit off things that are essential?

Blom also directed an early erotic horror film titled The Vampire Dancer (1913). It only exists online through a very grainy paper print version, but there are stills from the film that give you a sense of how lush the original would've looked.

There should be a law passed, and enforced, that we will no longer have for profit prisons of any kind! Ever again! Incentivized incarceration should be a crime against humanity and should be retroactively enforced! They know what they are doing is wrong!

Dudes. As a society we taught young women to walk with keys between their fingers in dark parking lots and to carry pepper spray in their purse.

So yes. I’m asking you to be responsible for the actions of other men. After all, that’s what you’ve asked of women for centuries.

It’s your turn.

In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.

I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.

It is easy to blame many others for their roles in nightmare, but Roberts had the greatest opportunity to arbitrate fairly and decisively if still from within his proportedly conservative perspective.

Instead he has consistently taken the role of a procedural and constitutional hypocrite.
