"But what about when there was only one set of footprints?"
"Ah, that was when my Fitbit was charging."

A square of purple crochet with the hook still in it, fairly even but the sides are wobbly.

Last minute crochet class homework finishing, I've managed to keep the same number of stitches on the top and bottom row, and I'll ask why my edges are wobbly. Tomorrow I think we learn to change colours.

I can hear a lot of cheering. Either there's a sporting event, or my neighbours are very excited about the Hugo Award shortlist.

An empty red brick bungalow with green and white window frames and door, two chimneys, and a distinctive orange tiled roof. It's in a grassy plot, the gravel paths are grassed over. It's surrounded by wire mesh fence panels but is clearly visible. You can just see the sea behind it across the field to the back and a row of windswept winter trees to the left.

This is Blake Cottage, the Happisburgh bungalow where we and the cousins and aunts and grandma spent a lot of time. It was passed to the council and is being demolished this week due to coastal erosion. Since the 1970s I've known it would happen one day.

10 years ago I was posting to Twitter. Now I'm posting to Bluesky.

A workshop bench, on it a sample section of plasterboard stud wall about 40cm by 30cm. It has lots of fixings on it, hooks and screws and a tiny shelf and some skirting board.

It will end up like this. After making the plasterboard wall we knock a hole in it and mend the hole. Lots of fixings to try out.

Everyone else put their work in the store between classes, but I'm taking mine home so I can catch up in small chunks at home. Tutor lent me the drill bits I'd need, to bring back next week. It's not too heavy, just six bits of wood to make a frame 30x40cm.

It will be really useful, but it is a huge and unwise physical challenge at the end of the day where I have least energy. Everyone is progressing at different speed but I am definitely slowest!

DIY class: tutor knows about ME and was quick to understand and accept my limitations and pacing, and the workshop is a little low building just off the main street where there's somewhere to sit while I wait for a cab home. Good class, good teaching, she flies around giving individual attention.

Are you just saying that because if we didn't have skeletons it would make life boring for archaeologists...

Suddenly wide awake thinking "Why do I have a skeleton!"

I shall go in early to Explain Myself, and not be shy about asking if anyone could give me a lift.

And will the carpentry class be near the front door (like quilting class in the other school), or will it be a trek across campus with stairs?
I have a good feeling about this class but also a bad feeling. I'll have to see how I get on.

Also, imagine the scenario at Picturehouse: "I'd like a ticket for the 2pm film please, and is it ok to take my model stud wall and/or half-made carpentry in to the screen?"

I have spotted a flaw in my plan to walk into town for cinema then DIY every Monday:
"You will finish with two final pieces – a small stud wall model, and a wood frame of the joints you have learned."
which presumably are too heavy/awkward to carry and will need to go home and come back every week.

If it were not for being careful for tomorrow, I'd be wanting to do comedy tonight...

You could do that as an appliquΓ© tablecloth.

On Monday I start a 10 week DIY course - I'm a bit nervous as it's both a bit further away, more physically demanding and later in the evening than quilting classes. I plan to go into town earlier in the day and watch something at the Picturehouse, to rest and make for a shorter walk to class.

Patchwork fabric blocks laid out on a classroom carpet. About 40 blocks, around 20cm each, a forest of stylised trees in lots of colours, some natural tree colours but also pinks on blues, whites on reds, even a couple of polka dots.

Quilt workshop today: improv trees with Helen Howes. Such a variety of interpretations, different fabrics and sizes and branch patterns. Mine are the four on the bottom left.

When we do show and tell at Quilt Club we have to lift things quite high up so people at the back can see them. So next time I'll make - pompoms! Yeah I can be a cheerleader age 55.

A daft thing I wasted some time on.

My partner pointed out that it'll have a 'Kids Club' screening at the weekend.

With a bit of finessing to recognise what exactly a stitch is and where to put the marker...

Wobbly rectangle of crochet in pistachio green wool, three different style stitches. Top and bottom are straight but the sides go in and out as I drop stitches and change tension.
Styled with a crochet hook and two pairs of glasses, on a fabric cutting mat, with the end of a ball of wool just in the picture.

Crochet class 1 of 4, at Sew Knit Craft in town. I do like an in person class to get me started. We covered double, treble and half treble (UK terms), I alternated between rattling along confidently and blanking on what goes through where now? Homework is a square without dropping stitches.

Between the silver hair free coffee and the silver haired lady who came over to me in a cafe as she thought I was her friend, I feel like I've slipped through a crack in the mirror to a new identity or accreted another layer of Matryoshka doll.
