Acronyms are pronounced as words.
-scuba
-laser
-NASA

Initialisms are pronounced as individual letters.
-NFL
-TSA
-TGIF

'Acronym' is frequently used for both kinds of abbreviations, so it's ok to call an initialism an acronym.

Being into cats feels so debasing. You give everything over to this animal — time, labor, money — but when you want them to sit next to you, they refuse and jump away. When they finally sit on your lap, you sit motionless to the point of physical pain, afraid to disturb them. Humiliating.

Every argument he makes about Mars and the future is aimed at reorganizing society and the distribution of resources on earth in the present. All his talk about space should be heard as “more money for Elno, now.”

Chrono Trigger is a great choice. The only other serious contender for me is Planescape Torment.

For those hereabouts scrambling to remediate course materials in order to meet the end of the month deadline for compliance with new federal ADA Title II standards, here is the endgame as I see it: 🧵

Awesome! I spent six years in Vancouver for PhD studies at UBC. Learned a lot from living with a family in Mount Pleasant. Excited to learn more about sides of the city most international students don’t get to see.

We are deprived of good black licorice in the US. It’s hard to find outside of real old-style candy shops and there aren’t many here. If it doesn’t literally make your heart race it might be perfectly good CANDY but it’s not really LICORICE.

The reason Moby Dick is the most American novel ever written is because it is about a violent white man enacting a confusing revenge fantasy against a cheap source of oil.

I love all of these because I remember just enough about the Marvel universe from the chaotic 1990s stories to get most of the main jokes. They’re very funny and for me, also nostalgic.

I think it’s aged better than many. It was around for a long time across the second and third gen. IMO it benefits by comparison to the fourth gen in 2015 which was both less distinctive and uglier overall.

You know whose fault it actually is that bluesky is dying? the reply guys, who consistently let down power users with substandard riffs and slightly off-topic GIFs

The prose is so lyrical that it’s a pleasure to read even about such a challenging situation. Thank you to the author.

Surely no one would deprive Merlin of his precious packing papers! He must save them, there may not be another shipment for some time.

Every cat owner has garbage laying around the house and you have to explain that its the cat's favorite garbage and so you can't throw it away.

The cousin to that thing when people hear you study applied linguistics and ask how many languages you speak. Or say they wish they could speak another language themselves.

I like Pages and Keynote! But I’m the only one in my department. The MS equivalents are useable but ugly and overloaded with features that I don’t need or care about. Unfortunately the Liquid Glass updates are not an improvement.

I’d rank GZA up there somewhere too but that might be personal bias. It’s a solid list.

A moving portrayal. I’m personally still afraid of rattlesnakes, but I’m glad they’re out there and that people can learn to coexist with them after all. I imagine crediting the species for the grace not to hold a grudge against us for all the gross roundups.

Yeah on iPhone at least. I have tested typing with it off and it’s a bit slower overall but less frustrating for me.

They’re telling me a great empire will be destroyed if I attack Persia. Even the oracles who don’t like me very much, very nasty, they all said to me, “Sir, it’s one of the great empires, and it’ll be destroyed. And all because you attacked Persia.” That’s what they’re telling me.

They could also be found in parts of the US until the early 1990s. A chain of gas stations in Wisconsin called Kwik Trip sold them. Maybe some farms did too? I’d read a long form piece about why they persisted in Ontario.

Neat perspective on WWE history! I stopped following it in the late aughts but it was amazing how even just a description of the music transported me back. Well done.

Yes, that’s the issue. I’ve been trying to find a way to articulate this: to the extent that LLMs serve a purpose in education, it’s an indictment of the education system, not a praiseworthy feature of LLMs.
