It was decided I wouldn’t receive the MMR vaccine as a teen due to health concerns. Now we are facing a potential measles outbreak in San Antonio because of someone who could have been vaccinated wasn’t. I’ve scheduled an MMR vaccine for tomorrow. I am thankful my health now allows for this.

Interacting w/ Officers • On foot & not detained: You are not required to answer questions. You can answer all questions with: "I am exercising my right to remain silent." • At the end of the encounter: You may end an encounter with a police officer by asking: "Am I free to go?" • If the officer says yes, you may leave. • If the officer replies with anything other than "yes" you may reply with "am I being detained?" • If they respond with anything other than "yes," you may state that you do not wish to continue speaking and leave immediately. • Searches: Police may pat you down if they suspect that you're concealing a weapon. Do not resist or touch the officer, but clearly state that you do not consent to any further searches. • Judges may determine silence as consent to the searches.
Interacting w/ Officers, Pt 2 • If you are detained: You may be required to provide your name, address, and date of birth. It is a criminal offense to give false or inaccurate information to a police officer, threaten them, or resist arrest. After providing required info, you may state "I am exercising my right to remain silent, and I would like to speak to an attorney." • Remember that anything you say can be used against you. • After arrest: Before participating in a protest, try to identify an attorney or trusted friend who could help you if you are arrested. Memorize or write that person's phone number on your body. • If you do not have access to an attorney, the government is required to appoint you one, but there could be a delay of hours or days depending on where you are arrested, and you have a right to remain silent during that time.
If Your Rights Have Been Violated • Write down everything you remember, including witness contact information and the officers' names, badge numbers, patrol car numbers, and the agency they work for. • Take photographs or video of any injuries. • Contact an attorney: You may consult a private attorney, contact your local bar association, or call the Texas Lawyer Referral Service operated by the State Bar of Texas at 1-800-252-9690 or 1-877-9TEXBAR (toll-free). • File a complaint: If you think the police have acted outside their authority, don't protest or resist on the scene. File a written complaint with the agency's internal affairs division or civilian complaint board. • Report the incident to the ACLU of Texas: If you believe that your rights have been violated, visit aclutx.org/intake to submit a legal intake.
I attended ACLU Texas’s “Protest: Know Your Rights” webinar this evening. These are great protest tips that were presented in their slideshow. I did not change the wording—just transformed into images that are easy to read for anyone who may be using assistive technology.

It’s my dad’s deathiversary—he took his life three years ago. I woke up with a massive headache and slept weirdly, so I took the day off. I went and got a workout in even though I was not feeling like it. How are you caring for yourself today?
