like, i think it MAKES SENSE for historical fiction and SHOULD be a thing!! a character not having agency for a specific reason (the historical period, for example) is in itself interesting 😂 i say have more historical fiction where the mc has no agency, and make that the point!
absolutely the issue i had with kyrie in dwd! she finds her agency (through other women) but spends the first quarter of the novel having things HAPPEN to her because yk. she's a woman in the victorian era that has absolutely no power 😂😂

Summers spent in a bordello ought to have prepared Delphine better. Though Hunter and his girls had always ensured Delphine did not see anything vulgar or unsightly, it was difficult to be ignorant when sitting around a dinner table amongst chattering girls. They told tales of their clients, giggling or rolling their eyes at wild requests from sailors. Hunter would shush them and send a pointed look in her direction, only goading them to spin even more dramatic and rather gruesome tales. Delphine would blush, but she took the joy in their teasing gratefully; summers spent in Hunter's Bordello were only full of fond memories. But they should have prepared her better for the view she had walked in on.
