If I had to identify a list of skills in high impact engineers, it would include:
- ecological awe
- intellectual humility
- respect for the complexity of unfamiliar problems
- cross functional communication
- resilience engineering
- marketing and sales
(“Technical skills” aren’t in my top ten)

the passive voice store was visited by me and you were known by everybody there
It’s also funny because if one does try to solve front end mathematically and with rigorously sound abstractions, you quickly end up having to read for math that’s so heavyweight and dense that it blows almost everything in the backend out of the water
Frontend is *hard*
It’s awesome. We really need a nice write up of messy 9 because I keep wanting to point people to it but there’s nothing written down yet
… I might have to do that 😅
Haskell is WEAK on the type system

Semantic Network of OECS articles.
Reminder! The Open Encyclopedia of Cognitive Science (OECS) hosts summaries of what we know vs don't about a host of fascinating issues. All freely available.
What a terrific alternative to doomscrolling: learning about (e.g.) The Mind-Body problem, Delusion, or Free Will.

Don’t worry, people still don’t understand what a cloud api looks like :)
This is ONE neuron?! 😍
This preprint is about this! THIS!! Mindblowing.
I am just real tired of “industry benchmarks” being useless bullshit that’s statistically invalid and methodologically unsound and there being zero way to point at the vast majority of research out there and argue your case meaningfully
Science communication is so important and we need more 😭
It’s also exhausting because you end up with ten different fuckin studies all with varying methodologies and operationalisations and you have to squint at them and somehow figure out how to make an informed choice and then defend it to people who think psychology is fake emotion bullshit and UGHHHHH
There is going to be a big wave of "omg what if you didn't treat this as an answer machine" "what if we rediscover active learning" commentary from CS in about six months, especially the voices currently describing everything as "brain rot and cognitive decline," and I'm already a bit tired
Do you think I could get a book deal with them? I have some ideas
My publisher for this is
What no this is totally the real one… totally👀
A fake book cover of Camille Fournier’s “the managers path” but instead it’s the manager’s wrath. ORLY® "A practical guide to surviving and enduring a career in Engineering Management." - Juan Pablo Buriticá, surviving eng leader The Manager's Wrath A Guide for Tech Leaders Navigating Complex Bullshit Camille Fournier
When’s the special edition of your book dropping, @skamille.themanagerswrath.com? It looks amazing
Ran into one of my old college buddies today
dude was one of the most cracked devs I knew. like reverse engineer a os from binary cracked
found out she transitioned.
I asked her why, and this hit me like a ton of bricks,
"kiran, a computer contains no techbros, but millions of trans sisters"
An ad for bbwjobs.com but the letter spacing is extremely tight, so the second b look like an l and o instead.
keming. not even once.
It looks so good with the refreshed hair colour 😍
How precious 💔🥺 I would be a wreck if my kid did that with me
Security folks: have we considered *not* releasing security patches for the avalanche of bugs we're about to deal with? Hear me out.
Given how much faster it's getting to reverse engineer an exploit from a patch and that we're expecting to fix *so* many bugs at once, maybe do a full release.
This is one of my most favourite parts of the internet experience

I have points with the big chains because conferences. But they’re definitely not worth it unless you’re staying at one of the ultra luxury places and have way more money than sense 🙃
It’s more a joke on how browsers are the new operating system. But yeah, that is another big advantage :)
Tiling window management in Firefox when?
You know when a concept is so much of a banger that you just know you’re gonna love the thing without even trying it?
