I think you hit it on the head, it's what AI has come to represent plus the absolutely relentless and headlong boosterism that comes with it. And because it's unavoidable, literally AI is put into everything, it feels oppressive.

We took our instructions to “go out and play” to the nth degree. Often cycling or skateboarding 10 mile + trips to try out big hills. Then returning home pretty battered and would never let on quite how far away we were.

Same. Our one instruction during school holidays was “go out and play”. What that entailed was purely up to you.
