my recollection was that Smith become so completely obsessed with his route that he descended into crankism, no?

I'm praying for Premier Ravi Kahlon, and sooner rather than later
But I am neither a lawyer nor a miner
Yeah, I get why they're both a big deal for case law, but from an industry perspective (which I think is what the government cares about) this seems like a settled issue? And it's just an academic exercise whether the mineral regime was killed by s. 35 or dripa?
I don't know enough about the sector to predict what will happen, I just find the sense of _panic_ in the government odd considering it's been 3 years since the BCSC decision
As an aside, ngl I appreciate why the province would _like_ a thriving mining sector but as a strategy for short-term economic revival it seems much worse along every possible dimension than focusing on juicing construction in urban areas
But hey maybe that's pundit's fallacy
Yeah, tho my point is that irrespective of the BCCA decision - even if it was decided the other way, and DRIPA was irrelevant - the previous process for staking claims was still a violation of s.35 per BCSC
Irrespective of DRIPA I don't think granting staking claims without consultation is tenable
In other words I'm not even sure that pausing DRIPA provisions can turn back the clock
Wasn't this what a lower court also found w.r.t. ss. 35 as well? I'll be honest I don't really understand how the recent Gitxaala decision materially impacts the mining sector; the Province already amended the process for staking claims after the 2022 decision
visited Whytecliff Park for the first time
neat little place, if somewhat undercut by the fact that some great views are obstructed by mansions
I sorta assume it's not quite what you're looking for but I always feel a spark of joy whenever I see a VW ID. Buzz driving around. Such a fun design that seems to be both genuinely practical for families while not having a giant, child-sized blindspot
ya the most vitriolic, racist BC subreddit I've come across is r/VancouverLandlords
Not being an accountant or anything, I'm a bit baffled here; surely this was known back when they were making the budget decisions and cuts? How does a half-billion surplus just happen like this?
always fun to see the baby sweepers around town
(sorry, couldn't resist)
Didn't realize you were in Vancouver - Point Grey
Unfortunately Vancouver's addiction to mini traffic circles makes a fair comparison impossible (afaik OSM doesn't distinguish between traffic circles and full-on roundabouts)
Building on this thread with a visual to show how much more uncommon roundabouts are in the Netherlands than many people assume (it sure surprised me when I visited!)
Just asking as a complete non-expert here, how's venting a different issue? Just from John's visual it seems intrinsic to the design of a p-trap?
always find it incredible how the visuals of LPC events are incredibly regime-coded
oh, hi, welcome to Vancouver!
New Burnaby Lake overpass looks fantastic
(also saw a beaver)
This is was a trivial example, but I think your core argument is... not true at all? Software, CAD, Excel are all productivity-boosting tools that make my personal job vastly more interesting and satisfying (I've often joked that if engineers still had to draw stuff by hand, I'd become a lawyer)
IDK, this morning Claude did a pretty good job of making an Excel workbook look pretty, allowing me to move onto something more interesting than formatting
I may have the details here wrong but my sense from what I've read is that the nimby machine was less "well-intentioned people who fought highways, then ran out of ideas" and more "rich people who hated new housing, and incidentally also highways" which is subtly different from what OP is getting at
I mean housing NIMBYism is also pretty foundational to Vancouver political culture, no? My understanding is the early 70s TEAM was just as motivated by West End hate (and wanting to prevent the spread of apartments to Kits)?

The official version of Washington, DC's laws are also stored on Github. It's a good idea!
