Googled what voltage my LaCie Triple external HD takes, said 12V. Checked the LaCie page, saw an orange drive, 12V. Plugged a 12V adapter in and… fried the hard drive. It’s 5V.

Removed TVS diode, solder blob bridged fuse, and bam, it’s alive again, and no damage to the enclosure!

Huh, I’ve never had anything weird like that happen. Maybe it was unrelated to the XGA mod? You used a LG cable and didn’t make one by hand right?

Yep! Samsung LTN121X1-L02 or Philips LG LP121X04 from a G3 or G4 white iBook!

I’ve heard something about certain XGA panels being pinned backwards? That may have done it. I’ve done the mod on 6-7 iBooks now and never had a problem, I’ve just always sourced the right displays from a G4…
