The Two Cultures: 2024 Edit The gap between the sciences and arts can seem wider than ever – but what if the two-culture wars are no longer quite what they appear?

Time to bring this back from last year (tl,dr: the problem in higher ed isn’t contention between the arts and sciences, it’s the business bastards who are stealing everyone else’s lunch):

Incredible that our constitution allows for a convicted felon to hold the highest office in the land.

Can someone pls explain?

In 1970 the UK and Norway were roughly equal, almost no debt, and owned all their Public Services.

Now the UK owns nothing and has £3tn of debt.
While Norway still owns everything and has the equivilant per person of £10tn.

That's how privatisation 'works'.

Word of the day is ‘sequaciousness’ (16th century): the slavish and reckless following of another person in matters of thought or opinion.

The deliberate weaponizing of refugees by RW media & political figures to demonise & deflect blame for UK Government's own failures has got to be 1 of the most cruel & morally corrupt tactics. Pains me how effective it continues to be in spreading false narratives & fuelling misplaced hate & anger 😑

Excerpt from Timothy Snyder's "On Tyranny:"

"1. Do not obey in advance."

"Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do."

Many Blues will remember Tommy Muir. Often called upon by the media for the voice of a true City fan, his memorable response on Sky to those doubting City became a classic gif. Sadly, Tommy passed away last night and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
