I love this game so much. I love prerelease and Friday Night Magic and premodern at weird pubs and Sunday morning Pauper leagues and Ravnica and Lorwyn and Vraska and Bolas and all the beautiful, diverse ways our equally beautiful community expresses their own love for this game.

I love Magic.

Also did a thing I don’t normally do (buy collectors packs) and rolled Japanese silverscroll copies of Deflecting Palm and Shamanic Revelation, so that was pretty cool.

So to anyone who wants to try to ease a partner or a friend into MtG thru 2HG events, please ensure your newbie is actually playing the game instead of you playing the game for them.

Like, legitimately, I think 2HG as a prerelease format is good for new people who may have more experienced friends to help them out. But that means the experienced player has to allow the newer player to ACTUALLY MAKE DECISIONS. It also helps if they TAKE THEIR OWN GAME ACTIONS.

2 headed giant prereleases feel like a mixed bag sometimes. Still not sure I like best of 1 rounds.

But what I definitely DON’T like is playing against a team that is actually one person playing two decks and their partner is just a warm body that exists so the first person can do more prereleases.
