Damn, that's a shame. Make sure everything is set to on for your iCloud sync on the new one I guess! If you still had the old handset you probably could have plugged it into iTunes and set the notes to sync that way or copy them off manually. Ah well.
Do you still have the old phone? Odd the notes didn't sync over if you're using the same account, you would have thought they were syncing with the cloud...
